Local and old time favorite, especially for pie lovers. Take a step back in time and choose among a wide assortment of tried and true food options.Despite the nostalgic "trip to the past" my "New Yorker" sandwich was, to my taste, excessively salty. The onion rings relied on their reputation as mine were no better than average. Service rose to the level of 3 stars as there were missed opportunities to ensure we as guests needn't worry if our waitress was going to return.I can now say I went to Reececliff Diner but doubt there will be a second visit based on my experiences of the first.
I've been eating here my entire life. I live about 45 minutes away and will still drive over for the fried okra or a slice of pie, and it's 100% worth the drive. Excellent service and even better food.
The food was great, the service was not. Our waitress did many things that I consider rude or inappropriate: complain to us about other customers, cut off an old man trying to get to his table and tells him to “wait”, spills tea on us and just laughs, etc. The two things that pushed me to write this review is 1) she continually told us it wasn’t lunch time and we couldn’t order lunch while people around us were eating lunch items and 2) when I ordered, I didn’t get a long change to look at the menu because I had to get it from another waitress, so I ordered sides I assumed they would have: fries, onion rings, and mashed potatoes (to give or split with my boyfriend). After ordering this, the waitress says “loading up on carbs I see.” I am recovering from a eating disorder and this really upset me. I didn’t eat any of the sides and was about to cry the whole meal. My boyfriend encouraged me to leave early. I can usually deal with bad waiters but this just really upset me. Maybe she meant it in a joking way but she sounded judgmentalIn her tone. The food was good, though.
The restaurant has been a part of the city for 75 years and the history of the space is displayed on the walls. 50's and 60's music plays in the background. The food is southern style fare but does feature diner style sandwiches as well. The service was prompt and everything was delicious. Looking forward to our next visit which I hope is soon so I can try a piece of their pie.
Very good place to eat. Excellent chicken fried or country fried steak, whatever you are use to it being called.
I have never been disappointed with the service or food at Reececliff. The folks there do care and despite staff shortages, they manage very well to attend to everyone. The portions are generous and priced fairly. The bone-in ham steak is the best around...thick, not thin and tasty. The home fries alone are worth the trip!
Friendly staff, great customer service and very clean restaurant. I had the pot roast for lunch. It was amazing! I will definitely be coming back to try other items on the menu.
Was in town to see my elderly mother. When asked where she wish to go for lunch, she immediately chose Reececliff. It was obvious to me that my mother and most of our fellow diners were of a generation whose many wonderful memories of this restaurant makes it their favorite place to dine. Our waitress was very pleasant and the food what one would expect from a Lakeland staple. As for me, I was not overly impressed with the food and will probably not return unless my mother wishes to dine there again. If she does, nostalgia will win out every time.
A friend and I dined here today 10/19/2021 for lunch. I was very impressed with the meal I ordered. I ordered the Tuesday Special Country Fried Chicken smothered in White Pepper Gravy, served with three sides and fresh baked bread. I chose Mashed Potatoes with White Pepper Gravy, Green Beans, Onion Rings and a Corn Bread Muffin. The food was absolutely outstanding, one of a kind. The meal had a Gourmet style, quality and taste. The Onion Rings were possibly the best I have ever had, the batter had a Waffle Like Flavor. The Sweet Iced Tea was perfect and the Chocolate Cream Pie with Whipped Cream for dessert was very delicious. Lee our waitress was very welcoming, friendly and informative. Lee informed us of all the flavors of Pie offered, without reading the choices, she had them memorized. She asked us how our food was, within one minute of serving us and constantly kept our Sweet Iced Tea's replenished. A very nice Vintage, one of a kind restaurant. Highly Recommend! We will return.
One of the first and likely the best Family Diner in Lakeland. Located near Downtown it is easy to get to. Great menu of Diner Food.Particularly the Liver and Onions! A personal choice of my wife and myself. Prices are comfortable and the staff is friendly and efficient.Would recommend for the whole family. Will put this place on our A List when here in Lakeland.
