I went on vacation with a large family group with the primary goal of throwing a surprise birthday party for a cousin we had not seen for almost 17 years. We are picky domincan eaters so it was essential that we find a restaurant that had authentic, criollo style dominican cuisine to cater for birthday party. I barely know anyone in the kissimmee area so I really had no guidance or opinions other than the restaurants reviews I read online. I called around a week in advance before visiting Florida to ask about the food and pricing around the Kissimmee area and I couldn't seem to find a restaurant that regularly served Rabo (Ox Tail) which is my cousin's favorite meat. That is until I called and spoke with Edward at Picalonga. I was so relieved but still nervous. Not every dominican restaurant knows how to cook this well or have a different interpretation of how to cook this meat. Long story short, I catered my food and arrived the following week to make my payment. These are the NICEST, most simple people! I felt like I was visiting Dominican Republic. While I was there, I bought and order of Chivo (goat meat) and my cousin who was traveling with me tried the Rabo (Ox tail) which is one of the meats we ordered for the party. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!!! Delicious, authentic, dominican food right in Kissimmee. Who would've known! I was so impressed by the food that I ordered 5 more plates to go. Lol. I was overjoyed that I found this gem. The quality of the food was superb! Thank you to Edward and his wife for making my family event so delicious and unforgettable. Listen, don't get fooled by all of the glitz and glam of other restaurants. I visited another "well-known" place when I got to Kissimmee and it was overpriced and under-seasoned. If you enjoy good, authentic, dominican food, this is the place to go. If you've never tried dominican cuisine, I highly suggest Picalonga so that you set the standard from that point forward. The best ever .I go there almost everyday to eat. The food is amazing.if you want to taste real good food give them a try.You will not regret it I recommend them 101%.
Don't pass on the opportunity to eat here. The food was absolutely spectacular. Rich in flavors and a new experience. Go with their recommendations, and you can't go wrong. This will definitely be on our list of places to eat anytime we're visiting.
Perfect place if your looking for delicious Dominican fare.It might not look as nice as other local Caribbean restaurants, but don't judge this place by the appearance or you'll miss out on some delicious food.I had the mangu tres golpes and it hit the spot! Wife had the fried chicken, and it was so flavorful and juicy. The red beans were on point.I only wish they had Dominican style spaghetti on the menu.I highly recommend this place.
The food is delicious! I had breakfast the first time and I had to go back and try their lunch. Great service ! Highly recommend if you are in the Kissimmee area.
Definitely..original and amazingly well cooked Dominican and American comfort food...make sure to try the baked chicken..crispy and moist inside..to dye for.. enjoy it i always will.
