It was empty when we walked in and we were told that the kitchen was closing in 20 minutes. We said that we had a big group, 14 people. They should have told us no. I would have thought that a big group on a deserted Sunday night would be welcome. This group flew from all over the country for a friend’s birthday celebration. We’re big spenders. But we’re not cheaters and we don’t like being cheated, which is what happened. Right after ordering, she should have come back and double checked if she was confused. When the food was delivered, we had extra meals. We said it to the kitchen staff, but she put it down anyway ignoring us. We said it to our waitress and she said we ordered it and hurried away to collect salt/pepper shakers from other tables. When she came back to the table to talk about the check, we tried to get things fixed. Finally, we asked for separate checks. She went from person to person. When she got to the last couple, he told her that the food didn’t belong to them. She demanded that he pay for it anyway and he did, more than a couple of hundred dollars. He paid it because he’s a good guy, not because he thought we owed it to them. He just wanted us to be able to go. Now, her manager or the owner, he never introduced himself was there in an office but she never got him. He came out at the end and he repeated that we had ordered the food, so he was chewed out. Who leaves their employee to handle a bad situation and then comes out in the end only to tell us one more time that we were in the wrong? It was not pleasant. The next day, we were participating in a scavenger hunt tour and they refused admittance to at least one of us. They were wrong, we paid for it and we were still treated poorly. We went on to the next place and we were treated great. They got a 5 star review. The tuna nachos were good. Everything else was so-so and it all feels overpriced now.
The Tuna is probably in my opinion the best place to see live music in Key West. There are regular bands that always play at the Tuna that are excellent and they have other musicians come in and play from time to time as well. Their music choices are always solid. And to top things off, the food is very good. You wouldn't think it at first, but trust me, it is really good - like their blackened mahi mahi over Caesar salad. And their bartenders are great. So like my title says, it is the best of both worlds!
We chose to have dinner here, it is right out of Duval street so we thought it'd be nice to have some quiet from the busy touristic street with live music as well.We chose the Tuna sandwich and the catch of the day, we tried the conch fritters (really good!) and the ceviche (so fresh!).We were overall pleased with our dinner, having little emblematic Roosters roaming free around us.The bill came with an automatic set amount of gratuity which really threw us off. For a party of 4!I would understand if we were a large group, but the waitress cleared marked off the suggested gratuity to add her own amount. It literally ruined our 1st night as we felt scammed.
Took a nice bike ride to Smokin' Tuna and loved the atmosphere. Cool backyard type of feel with lights and a nice stage. We weren't there long, just a stop to escape the sun and have a cold one, but the live music while we were there was great. Neat Smokin' Tuna cups that our beers were served in, and friendly bartenders. Definitely will stop in here when in Key West next time! ?
We will go back! Laura from Lithuania was our server. She was great. Food was great. 2 tacos will feed 2 people and YUM. Don’t judge it by it being a hole in the wall.
We had lunch at Smoking Tuna May 2022, we arrived at 11:30 it was not busy. We sat at the bar, the bartender seemed pleasant enough. We had conch fritters $12 for 6 fritters, White bean Chili $10, Lobster roll $21 and a couple chicken clubs $14 Ice tea, couple Margaritas. the total bill was around $120 for 5 people. I had the lobster roll, it had plenty of lobster meat inside a toasted roll, the meat was completely flavorless, it was served w French fries which were good. I also had the conch fritters, they were excellent in texture and flavor and had a fair amount of conch in them. My colleagues all enjoyed their food. We loved the ambiance of the place, and will recommend it for a good place for lunch.
Great little place of the main st. Bartender was crushing it waiting in most of the restaurant. We went at lunch time. Seems like a decent place for the price!
Always fun. Some of the best music you'll see in the town. Bar food is pretty good. Drink prices are reasonable for the town. Can be really loud at times. The outdoor bar along the street is a quieter alternative but you can still enjoy the music.
A visit to Key West must include a trip to Smokin Tuna.......in fact, we made 3 trips on our most recent visit to Key West. Always a good time with good drinks and a great menu.
