Fantastic Barista, very nice and great go talk to. I must have been there at a bad time cause there was only 1 other group there. Drink was too strong but some people wouldn't complain about that.
One of the most unique atmospheres I've experienced for a bar downtown. Bartenders are super slow, but they make sure to make you feel inferior while they're making a unique whiskey drink. Way overpriced. The third time I came here I walked in and walked out without ordering anything.
After having been a regular here for years, I can not recommend The Volstead at all. Two poor visits have completely soiled my opinion of this place.On my second to last visit, I came in with some friends. Of the three of us, the only person who's drink wasn't messed up was my own (tbf, it was just a double shot of tequila... Not sure how you could mess that up) and the bartender 'lost' one of my friends cards and started getting hostile with her when he said that she still had the card and was trying to get free drinks, when the other two of us clearly saw her hand the bartender her card to start a tab. After that fiasco we finished our drinks quickly and then left.On my last visit, I went by myself. I figured maybe we just caught them on a busy night or what ever the case may be. I had one drink, a double shot of tequila, paid my bill and left. Then I got a notification from my credit card that my card was charges twice at the bar for two totals that were not my original bill. That was the last straw.I dont know what's changed in the almost three years I've been coming here. But it's sad to have it all go to waste.
It is set up as speak easy. Drinks were $6for good Old Fashions. No food. We enjoyed ourselves.
Great little place, nice surprise when you walk back through the curtain. I loved how dark it was inside and friendly vibe. Will definitely go again nice bar and good drinks.
What an absolute GEM in the Jacksonville area. I had a friend who came into town and had never been to Jacksonville. He had read about the Volstead and had specifically requested it.It has incredible, interesting and elaborate cocktails + a selection of beers. They do swing dancing 1x a month too which is really neat.I can't leave this review, however, without mentioning the theming and ambiance. It is DISNEY LEVEL. The exterior of the Volstead is themed to an old time Jacksonville post office. You have to go in and go through a curtain to get to the "speakeasy" environment. They have silent films playing on the wall, awesome art, and homages to Jacksonville citizens from the 1920's. There is nothing else like it in Jax, and most cities don't have anything like this PERIOD.Absolute gem. Be ready to spend $10-13 per cocktail, however, and make sure you tip your bartenders. They are stellar.
Very dark and mysterious vibe. Drinks never disappoint me. They have local bartender brawls that are amazing from time to time. Good service.

Went for happy hour and the place was busy. There was only one bartender working, so there was a wait but worth it. The drinks were delicious. Once the construction in the front is done, it looks like the store front will be an antique style barber shop.
The entrance was pretty cool. When we arrived it wasn’t very busy but waited at the bar for 30 min before anyone even acknowledged us. Drinks were good but ordered the same drink twice and it wasn’t very consistent. I would go again if I was in the area but wouldn’t go out of my way.
