We visited here on a road trip back home. We were used to Steak n Shake having waiters, real plates, real silverware, and salt, pepper, mustard, ketchup, and peppers at the tables. They have converted to kiosk or phone order only for dine in, and you have to try and get the attention from someone making food in the back if you want any plastic silverware, or if you need anything at all beyond the self-serve drinks and napkins. Ketchup is now one of the large dip or squeeze packs per order (which was enough for me, but my son got a sticky one). The burgers were good, but one of my son's couldn't eat his chili dog because there was so much chili on it that the bun disintegrated, and the plastic forks we were given (I asked for a knife, too, but they don't have them) were absolutely no help.
Steak 'n shake used to be my favorite restaurant. I guess because of the pandemic, but they have apparently transitioned to a completely self-serve experience. Ordering is done through a kiosk, with a more limited menu. Drinks are completely self serve, and in this particular store, all the fountain drinks tasted "off" like the syrup was low or not adjusted correctly. I ordered a shake, and received a very intensely flavored strawberry shake, and not in a good way. One of my party ordered a chili dog and it was soaked in a very watered down chili, disintegrated in it's basket. Honestly the whole thing felt tragic, and considering we were traveling, we didn't really have time to leave and go somewhere else.
This location was Mediocre at best. My burger was barley warm when I recieved it. I had to go back and ask for a fresh one. I would compare the burger to a smaller, less fresh "Freddy's" type burger.At least try it for yourself. Your experience might be better than mine.
This is the beginning of the end of Steak and Shake as we know it. Usually packed with customers and waitress. Now no waitresses all food is ordered at a keyosk and no personal interaction. All the things that used to make this thing great are gone. No more real China plates, real silverware, no napkins on tables, no anything. The days of sitting around with friends and family at the local hangout are gone. Steak and Shake... wake up! If this is your new business model then you're sunk! I give it 6 months and it's over. Food was not too bad but not the same it seems.
Went through the drive through and ordered 2 meals!! Not a difficult order. Kids hot dog meal with a kids shake and # 10 no drink. Parked and opened the bags. Got 2 burger meals!! No hot dog! Went IN to get the hot dog for my grandson. Got back to the car and NO napkins!!! I wasn’t aware I had to order them as well!! Jeeze, not impressed steak and shake!??
Best fast food place, but they do fix the food fresh when you order it so it's not sitting around. I asked a question after I had submitted the order on the kiosk and they were friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the double bacon burgers with grilled onions .
They need to stop rushing people when they’re trying to order. Every time we ordered something they were real quick to say “Is that all?” No. I will tell you when that’s all. They need to learn how to speak to customers with respect.
Went to shake and steak around 5:05 pm. The drive thru order taker was so rude with rushing me HER NAME IS TARYN. Really needs some better customer service hunny. No need to rush someone who is trying to order for a car load of people. Next time say "What else can I get for you?" And then WAITTTTT for the person to say "I'm done." Then food was cold.
I grew up eating Steak 'n Shake in the midwest. Always was a good time with friendly wait staff and fun hats. This place is just the name and nothing else. The tables were gross, the floors were sticky, the bathroom smelled horrible and you had to order your food on an annoying kiosk and then wait way to long to get your number called for you to pick up your cold burger and soggy fries. Bonus: The soda machine was missing several of the drinks.
Waited for approximately 45 mins all for cold french fries and a burger. Then waited an additional 25-30 mins for my milkshake. Meanwhile, there was an argument that went down. Never will waste 9$ here again. The management is poor and ghetto.
