Never been to soul food express before. But they came and showed senior citizens, and security some love thank you about to tear this up. Not sure what I'm eating buts it's delicious and I'm definitely gonna have to pay a visit soon.
The food was horrible! The pork chops what's tough. The gravy tastes like it came fresh out of an ashtray. The macaroni and cheese didn't have any consistency. It looked like I had just cheese and noodles ?...The time before that, the lady fixing my food had an extreme attitude. I guess because I asked to change a side....the macaroni and cheese was the same on this visit also! Smh...Who has money to waste??? Oh and the cornbread! ??♂️ Maybe they forgot the sugar.
Its hit or miss. And overpriced. Menu says $13 but she ring up 13.98 plus tax. So where the .98 cents come from. Also, old yella woman have an attitude. Learn how to make your customers feel appreciated

Love the food but the lady that was serving the food was unpleasant rushing customers she was not happy no smile just rude and gave my mom the wrong food but she said it was ok not me for 15$ a plate overall the food was good

Soul Food Express is the real deal. It's open Friday thru Sunday at 11am. until late.Mostly a take out place but we dined in at the bar/counter. The owner & staff were very friendly. They gave us samples of some items since it was our first time.This old school soul food restaurant serves up southern staples like fried chicken, baked chicken with white or yellow rice & gravy and candied yams,Between the two of us we had Fried chicken, Mac n cheese, field peas, baby lima beans, rice n gravy. . Everything was fresh & tasty. Our dinners were $9. And of course, a side of fresh home-made corn bread on the side. For dessert the two of us split the banana pudding, and pound cake, which were both seriously good.They also had candied yams, greens, cabbage , peas/okra/corn, green beans, potato salad, squash,etc.Meats: Baked chicken, pork chops,( ribs $11), turkey wings, salisbury steak, neck bones, beef stew.deserts: strawberry cake, lemon cake, brownies plus many more.Very family friendly as well, not fancy, just good. An experience! If you're in the Jacksonville area and crave some good soul food this is THE place.
I ate here on my lunch break and I didn't regret it. The food was exquisite. The staff was friendly and very cooperative! It's not a big place, but it's someplace you should definitely visit if your In the Jacksonville Downtown Area !
