Just went to this place for dinner with my family. Not being from Jacksonville, I looked at the reviews and said we should try this place for dinner. Now I know what good soul food is! Well if you want canned sides, that’s what you are going to get. Mac and cheese, corn bread was good. Shrimp were hard fried. Fried chicken (dark meat) was dry as a bone. Catfish was so-so. Seasoning on the fried food were good. Now for the staff, the first encounter was horrible. She lied about baked chicken stating that there was a wait but then immediately said they didn’t have anymore. The guy on the hot plate line made our experience a little better. He should be commended. The cashier needs some customer service training. She was very incoherent.Jacksonville you deserve better! I wouldn’t recommend this place at all!
The food is always amazing here. It is a cafeteria style setting with some of your favorite soul food dishes. They give you a very generous serving of food. My only advice is to avoid going on Sundays. It is always a very long line at both locations. The location on Atlantic REQUIRES you wear a mask in the restaurant. The other location is more relaxed on that rule and is not a requirement. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for really good food and great portions.
Food is very delicious, the customer service is great, they give you a good portion for your money. Overall it's a great place to eat home cooking ?
So delicious. Every bite was bursting with flavor. I had the fried pork chops, Mac n cheese, greens, and it also came with yellow rice with some gravy from the smothered pork chops. Will definitely come back. Worth the cost in my opinion.
This place use to be a good place to go. Now the staff are rude & unsanitary. AS they ask you to wear a mask, they have nails as long as they can be done with no gloves. Very contradictive. Hours listed are never the hours open. Once inside you better hurry thru the line & get out fast, don't even think of sitting in the dining room. That now has been closed for over a year with chairs blocking off anywhere. VERY SAD how great this place use to be & to know its somewhere I will never return OR recommend again.
1st thing first they need to update their website. It says they close at 8pm on Sundays and they do not they close at 7pm. Specifically called before I came to the Normandy location and asked if they had a particular item and the woman o. The phone stated yes and I asked if they closed at 8pm I was told yes. I drove 28mins only to walk in and for the nice woman at the door to say they were closed at 7:11pm. I asked who do I need to speak with to have someone to update their website with the correct hours of operation.I was craving only one item and it did upset me that I wasn’t able to get that one item And I would have paid double I just was craving it… This did put a bad taste in my mouth never had an issue with them because I usually come during the days I’m on the west side during lunch hour.Just change the hours on website and make sure whoever answers the phone make sure they let the customer know the closing time just in case they are in route instead of wasting their time.
They must've hired a new cook because last week the food was overly salty- all of it! Otherwise, each time the food has been extra good. Not just good, but extra good ?? ... I have never had salty cornbread until last week. I think someone intentionally was trying their best to Sabotage to works of the Lord! "The devil is a lie" ! Ha!
Great restaurant… Best soul food in Florida we drive 2 hours to eat here on any given Sunday…..!!!! Love this place!!!
Ordered the fried chicken, baked chicken, Mac n cheese, greens, corn bread, and dressing for a catering order. It was delicious!!!!!
My go to place when I don't feel like cooking. (Because their food is almost as good as mine ?) I also like to use them sometimes for catering last minute gatherings as well. They are reasonably priced and the food is decent. I've used them to cater everything from a banquet, to a small Thanksgiving gathering at my home, to a repass after the passing of my loved one. I will warn you, when going for a regular order be prepared to wait in line! Take a book or something. But that's kind of a good sign that there is good food. Try them out. Happy Day!
