This was a pleasant surprise. Happen to come across this restaurant thanks to Yelp reviews. Definitely recommend making reservations beforehand as this place gets packed. This place has its charm as they give you complimentary rice. The food is tapas style so really awesome for sharing. Also I highly recommend the Leche Banana Flan Cake.
Got to have dinner here and everything about our experience from the time walking in to leaving was pleasant and welcomed. We were greeted at the front of the house by one of the part owners (Nora?). Her presence and love for food is infectious. We each had drinks and starters. When you sit down there is a fork and spoon, again if you know, you know! The food came out quick. We decided to order plates and starters and share family style which is what I think this suits for. One of the signs say “Rice is life”. Any person who is Fillipino or knows Filipinos understands all meals served with white rice. I only wish we had the chance to dig into desserts but we will next time. More to come for this restaurant. For now it’s busy and best to make a reservation unless you are one person. I don’t think it’s good for big party as it does t suit big parties well. 4-8 tops ideally.
Had dinner here for the first time and everything was great! We sat at the bar and ordered a variety of tapas style items which came out quickly. Portions are ideally sized for sharing while also allowing you to try multiple items. We finished with the Halo halo cake..... which was delicious, but defies explanation, you simply have to try it!Reservations are recommended, but if you stop by during non-peak hours you can get a seat at the bar.
Super impressed with this brand new spot! The food is really well presented and was a good 8.5/10. The bbq ribs were fantastic! Their staff has a little bit more training to do before their grand opening which is coming up on 6-12. I’m sure they will manage just fine though. The place is very lively and well-doctorated with Filipino icons and you can tell that so much passion and thought was put into the creation of this place. They have big plans for the business and I am so excited to support them as they celebrate milestones. As they continue to grow in popularity, I’d advise asking about reservations before you go. It was packed for a Thursday night— even without being officially open!
Waiters need more training. Place is unorganized.
Purple Roots is a great new spot for Filipino food with extremely friendly customer service (hostess Nora was especially welcoming)! The lumpia was delicious, not greasy like some places. Fish was quite good (just remember the fish has bones, which is normal). The only thing missing is more alcoholic beverages, but the employees said they will be adding those and karaoke night soon. This is a place everyone should try.
Our servers Nathan and Nora were exceptional. 10/10 service! The food is great. The chef’s hard-work and attention to detail is apparent just by looking at our food’s presentation. At $18 for the most expensive entree, this place is extremely good value. We got a fine-dining experience. I’ve had far worse places for a lot more $ than this. It’s a hidden gem.
The experience was amazing! Presentation and first wow factor is there! Congrats on one of the best new Filipino restaurants in Jacksonville. This is not your mom's kitchen. It's a modern twist on classic Filipino foods. The sunrise Mellon drink with a splash of condensed milk, brought me back home to my roots, the twist of an orchid and a ball of Mellon is edgy and gives this twist; of this, is not your average Filipino mom kitchen.Pricing was slightly high but the experience and the presentation of food along with the service is amazing. This was written during. Their soft open. Certain items sold out lumpia and fishballs. 4.5 stars but no option for it.I can't wait to see what comes next.
I had dinner at the Purple Roots yesterday with my family. Overall it was a great experience. We had reservations and got sat right away. The host Nora was enthusiastic and hospitable. The food was tasty and desserts were dynamite! I would definitely recommend and plan on returning again.
It's been awhile that I've raved about a Filipino Restaurant... and now IS the time... and Purpke Roots is THAT restaurant!! Ambience is great, music is awesome, service is very good, but most importantly... THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT!!! Not only did it taste excellent, but it was very pretty... just look at the pics of the food I got!!
