Almost 5 stars...The food is good, the service is good, the sauces are good. & they have a good selection of beer. I deducted a star because of the management. He walks around & asks how's everything? I replied everything is good, except your door. The door that takes you from the patio into the restaurant has greasy fingerprints on it. (I'm including pics.) His response, "Ahhhh, we will clean it later."That door is handled multiple times by patrons & wait staff bringing the food to the patio. Bottom line: don't ask if you really don't care what my answer is. It takes just a minute to wipe down the door....
Great, family friendly restaurant with awesome BBQ and eclectic appetizers. Always worth a visit when we are in Jacksonville.
Let me start off by saying, I have 6 wood/charcoal smokers in my back yard. My favorite BBQ is the BBQ that I make. I am not a fan of gas heat wood burning smokers at all. This is what you will find at most, if not all BBQ joints in Jax. I tried The Bearded Pig because I heard mostly good things and I wanted to find out for myself. I ordered a beef rib, brisket, pork ribs, brisket poutine, mac n cheese, and bake beans.First, the brisket. I was offered my choice of either the "fatty brisket or the lean brisket". That is brisket from the point or the flat. I chose the point. The meat was surprisingly tender and moist. It was seasoned nicely with what tasted like simple salt and pepper. The real surprise was that I didn't taste the gas that I usually get from other gas smokers. On the other hand, I didn't get a lot of real wood smoke flavor. Nevertheless, this was one of the better briskets I had in Jax.The Beef rib. Nicely seasoned, tender and moist. Great flavor, but far too expensive. However, one rib could feed 2-3 adults. The poutine fries. My least favorite part of the meal. It seemed to be missing the cheese curds. I noticed the brisket but not the pork. The brisket was dry. I had a few bites and threw the majority away. The pork ribs. Nice color, tender, moist, with a good bite. It was nowhere near fall off the bone, which it shouldn't be. Fall off the bone means it is overcooked. These ribs were perfectly cooked. The mac n cheese. It was good and creamy. The cheese sauce tastes like something that is bought and not made and o found the choice of pasta to be a strange one (personally Ibwould choose cavatappi), but overall it stills counts as a good comfort food. The baked bean. These were some of the best I have ever had. They use several different types of beans and cook them in what tastes like a homemade sauce. They were not overpowered by BBQ sauce and sweetener. The thinly sliced onions were an excellent touch. Finally, the sliced turkey. I don't expect too much out of turkey, to be honest. This turkey was very tender and moist. It was kind of lacking in the flavor department, but there are plenty of BBQ sauce options to fix that.Overall, this was a good BBQ experience. I will have to come back to try the other menu options. The lack of real wood/charcoal smokers is the only reason I can't give this place 5 stars. My understanding is that the city does not allow it. Nevertheless, I stand firm. The best BBQ comes from wood/charcoal smokers.
Our first visit (but not our last!) Kate, the bar keep, was fabulous and really knows the menu- made great recommendations. We got a little of this and a little if that, and had an AMAZING meal. Fair prices, good portions, and delicious food. I recommend the jalapeño poppers more than anything else! ?
amazing food and quick go get our food. will definitely be coming back!
This is our first time in this Jax beach location. Very relaxing atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Ample parking even on a busy weekend. We had the San Marco platter and it was alot of food even for 2 people. The brisket was probably the best one I've ever had in NE Florida, when it comes to flavor and tenderness! The chicken was kinda undercooked but everything else was perfect. I would definitely be back again!
This was my first visit. I really like the look of this new beaches restaurant. Nice and sturdy construction, good layout and plenty of parking. I ordered an appetizer of the rib tips, brisket sandwich with a side of collard greens and a couple beers. I had to send back the rib tips because they were over seasoned and very tough. I replaced them with the burnt ends and these were much better. The brisket sandwich was on point and the collards were fantastic. I sat at the bar and the service was good and the bartender handled my situation with the rib tips very professionally. I'll definitely return!!
Great barbecue if you have no taste buds. Lima and kidney beans in the baked beans? Carrots in the collard greens!? Baked beans so rancid I wouldn't serve them to my enemy. $45 lesson learned.
We have eaten here many, many times and have always enjoyed it.Tonight, my husband is in Beaches Baptist with double pneumonia and pleurisy. This is the first night in three that he’s felt like eating and requested dinner from your restaurant.Much to our disappointment, the ribs were tough and dry. The chicken was also way overcooked with skin so dry and tough that it was inedible. The sausage was also dry and overcooked.Quite a disappointment when we were so looking forward to a great dinner. I did not return it as it was drizzling rain and 38 degrees outside.
We went to the Jax Beach location, and ordered the South Beach Platter and two banana puddings. The good: The young guy at the counter who took our order, was very friendly and efficient. Our food came out relatively quickly. The brisket and pulled pork were good. Not great, but good. The bad: After you order, you get your own drinks, silverware, etc., and about half of the silverware was dirty. The ribs were tough and chewy. In a way I've never seen. The chicken was tiny and mediocre. The sides were incredibly small. The platter is $55, and comes with about enough meat for four people, but the sides are only big enough for two. The wafers on the banana pudding were just kind of off, and definitely stale. The server who brought our food was relatively pleasant, but never returned with a couple of things that we asked for, and don't expect anyone to come back and check on you while your dining either. Our ticket was $70, and I tipped 20% at the register. I wouldn't make that mistake again, but I doubt we'll be going back anyway.
