Being part German, I was so excited to find this place! All I can say is that it's truly authentic and reminded me of home. We had the potato pancakes (excellent), potato soup with bread (tasty), Sauerbraten (fantastic) and Currywurst (very good). I was also happily surprised to find Apfelschorle on the menu, which I ordered twice. I struggled with what to order because I wanted to try everything, so you really can't go wrong! Highly recommend this place, the atmosphere and server were great too. Vielen Dank für das leckere Essen! ??
My wife and I stopped here to eat and we couldn’t have made a better decision. The staff was so great. The food was awesome. Large portions and the taste was fantastic. I usually don’t get soup, but I got the German Potato soup and it was the best. The Bavarian Schnitzel made me very happy. They will definitely see my face again. If your looking for a good place to eat, this is it.
Another restaurant near Holiday Inn - the outside of the restaurant looks really rundown and you wonder if it's open but it is - and it is beautifully decorated once you walk through their front doors - you are transported into Heidelberg! We wanted to try the pork knuckle but it was probably too much for just 2 people with small appetites (American diners may find this not too much though & also we could takeaway any balance but that was an option we personally cannot take - sadly) so we opted to share an Oktoberfest platter comprising an assortment of sausages, smoked pork chop, meatball with mashed Potatoes and very generous servincs of delicious red cabbage and sauerkraut. The tomato soup was a bit sweet but that could be very sweet tomatoes and I liked it. The goulash soup was solid and filling . My Krombacher pilsner was great! We will have to return to try the pork knuckle one day
Old Heidelberg Restaurant is a long-established German restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. They advise the menu is ever changing but has a good range of offerings. The restaurant is not that large and reservations are suggested. There is a large bar area. There were 4 of us for dinner and no one was disappointed with their choices. While the food and service were good, it is just difficult to give a full 4 stars when rating. All entrées are served with a choice of a small house salad or cup of soup. Dinner companions enjoyed their soups and our salads were good -- couldn't try the soups since they contained pork. The bread was nice and fresh. The various schnitzel offerings can be ordered as pork, chicken, or veal. The pork schnitzel were very large servings. I had the Crispy Roast Duck with spicy orange sause which truly was outstanding. One of the group enjoyed the meal so much that he ordered a meal to take home for next day's lunch.Desert saw us trying the plum cake and an apple strudel. Both were served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. There was also avgood selection of German beers along with a full service bar. A good and enjoyable evening was had by all.
My wife's family is German so whenever our children or her family, and mine, come in to visit, we go to Old Heidelberg. Great food. German music, draft German beer. Always busy. Easy on-site parking. Great german bar too. everyone is so friendly. If you like real German food. Get here. Prost!
great food nice gear music and of course great beer
The restaurant has lots of charm and atmosphere. We has the jägerschnitzel and it was wonderful. The portions are very large so we opted to split and pay the $6 to split and each get a set of sides. They ask that you don't make changes to the menu so if you want a different side dish than what is listed you'll have to pay a nominal charge but for us it wasn't an issue because it was great just the way it came.
Yuck! Don’t waste your time. Very dark and dated and the food was forgettable at best. Schnitzel was luke warm and oily, no taste really. Cold bread cut into tiny pieces, served with cold butter, obvi stored in a refrigerator. Up charged on several items because we wanted a minor change to our dinner —ex:asked for red cabbage instead of sauerkraut for a side. And there was 90’s techno type music playing, at least play Bavarian music lol. Many better choices of restaurants to choose from in this area, don’t bother.
Awesome German food. Service was good and quick. Everything I had tasted wonderful.
I've been visiting for 30 years and I have watched three generations of the family-run that restaurant and it's always I really good experience good people and fantastic food from yesteryear highly recommend visiting this Fort Lauderdale gem
