We booked one night because it was the only place that offered one night weekend accommodations, and the rate was very reasonable for the excellent location. But we would not stay here again. We had the small twin bed room (#7). The bathroom was sparkling clean, but the bedroom itself was scary. I peeked under the beds and wished I hadn't. Clearly, the floors had not been recently cleaned. I asked for a dust mop, and got a long handled "lint roller" type device. I retrieved a dusty koozie from an early May wedding, and a spray sanitizer bottle, along with so much ick and hair strands (all colors!), I filled 4 sticky sheets and then stopped. I had to put it out of my mind. The bed linens and towels were fresh and clean, except for the bed skirt which was very dirty. Oh my it needed laundering badly. Another important factor to consider (which we were aware of from prior postings): you can't escape the band playing outside next door at night. They were very good, but even earplugs didn't help. So that was the room. On the plus side, the a/c was excellent and there was a ceiling fan too. And the staff were very cheerful. This Inn needs a lot of TLC and attention to the little things: emptying cigarette laden urns, fixing the front door knob, replacing burnt out light bulbs, etc. The location is superb, but don't stay here if you value comfort. The loud music ensures you won't sleep and the uncleanliness may leave you sleepless too.

They have Wi-Fi, and you can connect to it, but the signal is so weak that it simply does not work, not even for downloading email or sending a message. If you need a strong signal, you can leave your room and go to the first floor parlor in order to actually use Wi-Fi. It is much warmer there. There was a TV in our Bridal Suite room, but it, too, did not work. It would turn on, but the only live channel that functioned with sound was about silly things animals have done. All other channels had video but no sound. There was a Roku menu on the TV offering options the Wi-Fi weakness reduced to utter impossibility. On the morning of departure, in fairness, live TV began to work. Our room was large, its shower deep and dark. It was mostly clean. Furnishings were very old, in keeping with the Inn’s age. The bed was serviceable, if not exceedingly comfortable. It had neither closet nor coat rack — a single, four-pronged hook attached to the water closet door sufficed for hanging wet towels far from the shower. Temperatures in the room were not adjustable but reasonable with a ceiling fan running above the bed. For guys, in order for the toilet seat to stay up, one must lift and slide the tank cover to the rear, after which the seat will not suddenly close at an inopportune moment. There is a bar next door owned by the same people as the Inn. It has extensive outdoor service and a live band performing during our stay. The band’s volume was simply spectacular. You will need good earplugs to sleep unless you are out and about quite late or at the bar until the band quits. The band during our stay, by the way, was quite talented. One does think, however, that the owners owe a caveat about the considerable late volume to those who rent rooms from them. Breakfast was minimal but acceptable— eggs, toast, yoghurt, coffee, some small pastries. One morning, the door to the breakfast room was locked, and after waiting a half hour in the adjacent parlor, we discovered that there was an entrance elsewhere off a rear porch that we were never informed of. The property, in general, had an air of not quite malevolent neglect, but not benign, either — though it seems to have much potential. The online photos of our room at the Inn’s website, by the way, appear to have come from an earlier redecoration and did not, in a number of respects, reflect the room we had.

For the second night in a row the loud and obnoxious music is so loud in our room we have to raise our voices just to hear each other. The patrons from next door are not only shouting and hollering they are taking up the entire parking lot with their cars. We were lied to about the music being loud last night because of a “special event” and there is no way the danishes are homemade. We stayed here years ago and I had such fond memories until this trip. You can’t believe how loud the music and the drunks are next door. Never ever stay here.

I would not recommend this hotel at all. It needs a lot of maintenance that was not being done. There was not enough food for breakfast the 2nd day and they only serve for 1 hour anyway which they don’t tell you. It was really an unpleasant experience.

My sister and I attended a wedding at this inn. We got the room with the twin beds and the room was so tiny that we could barely move! The beds made horrible noises when you tossed and turned. My bed sloped to the left and I kept rolling. The band from next door was so loud that it was impossible to sleep! I had a headache the entire weekend from no sleep! No outlet in bathroom, bring extension cord. We either had a ghost or someone came into our room. Things were moved around and my conditioner had been completely emptied! Very strange. Breakfast was coffee and bagels which is all I wanted anyway. Good location and walked everywhere. Shopping and dining close by. Staff was nice. Would not stay here ever again!

My husband and I chose to visit Fernandina Beach on a Tuesday in order to avoid the crowds. However, even midweek my first choice hotels were full, and also surprisingly expensive, so I decided that in spite of negative reviews I would take a chance on the Florida Inn. The hotel is conveniently situated in the center of town, so after parking in the lot behind the hotel we were able to walk everywhere. We checked into room 6 which turned out to be very small and very dark. We opened the blinds but the windows opened onto a storage area with very little light. The room was clean except for soap scum on the shower door. The manager was very nice and moved us to room 13 which was much larger, lighter and had been recently repainted. Our only complaint was that out of 9 light bulbs in the room 5 were not working! The deck outside the room was covered with leaves and the two chairs outside the room were filthy. My husband still has the stains on his shorts which unfortunately I can't get out! Overall the Inn is quite charming and the manager friendly but I suspect the poor housekeeping and maintenance is due to a shortage of staff - something that many businesses are having a problem with these days. We had a drink at the bar next door which is pretty seedy with a Key West vibe. There is a large stage adjacent to the building and I can imagine that at weekends the place would be heaving. When we came back from dinner we stopped for a short while to listen to the solo guitarist performing on the deck and then went back to our room where we slept soundly. Breakfast the next morning was very basic: Coffee, Orange Juice, Toast, Yogurt. The Florida Inn wasn't bad and could easily be so much better. My advice is to select a deluxe room and avoid the weekends if you don't like loud music.

READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING!!!! The toughest part of this NEGATIVE review is where to start. As we sit in this room late at night with the LOUD sound of some local band BLASTING through our room, so loud we cannot even turn the TV up loud enough to drown them, we are tempted to pack up and drive home. This band at the place next door has non-stop been CRANKING for HOURS and HOURS. Trust me, if you want a minute's peace after dark, FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO STAY. And the place next door and The Florida House Inn are owned by the same people, they KNOW WHAT THEY'RE SUBJECTING THEIR GUESTS TO without any forewarning. There are many other places to stay here, and we have stayed at several, and had a very peaceful stay. DON'T EXPECT THAT HERE. They know exactly what you're in for. Now on to other not-so-fun stuff. Good luck parking here. They have reserved parking but not enough for everyone here nor do they police who parks there. Expect to drive for a long time and park a long way away and haul your stuff as there is no unloading area. Getting to the room was a bit of a challenge thru all the yellow construction tape. The room you ask? You probably shouldn't. The floor on the deck was extremely out of level and the room was even worse. The poster bed frame didn't even come close to lining up with the ceiling, the bathroom cabinet legs didn't touch the floor as the floor is out of level and the cabinet is nailed to the wall, the closet door wasn't even held in the track, and the beautiful fireplace, well, they say they're just for decoration. Expect a nice romantic evening here cuddling in front of a crackling fire? FORGET ABOUT IT. Barely any water pressure and wait a while to get some fluctuating heated water. So in a nutshell, unless you're planning on going to the place next door every night you're here, plan on no peace, no relaxing, and definitely NO QUIET. Use your favorite rating app and find some other place. Have had some bad stays at places but have never come this close to packing up and driving home in the middle of the night just to get away from somewhere. We have some videos of the sound level inside and just outside the room but cannot post it here. Search around and you can find them.

The best hidden gem in Amelia Island. Come see Austin at The Mermaid Bar. Tell him what you like and be ready to be amazed with a custom drink that I'm sure you'll never forget. We will be back for sure!!

This inn is located very convenient to shopping and restaurants. It has old Florida charm dating back maybe 150 years. Rooms are very unusual. Room 5 has a tub / shower in the bedroom separated by only a curtain. No privacy. Bar next door has music till about 10 so this room is noisy. Room security is poor with one dead bolt. Outside entry door is not locked although there was a key for the door. Breakfast was marginal as some items were not available. Staffing problems. I have stayed at better B and Bs
