It's a little pricey. It was recommended by a valued friend who is sorely miss(Sam Eckhart). If you don't get there early you will probably have to wait to get in. That's how good it is.

Had a friend recommend Emmy's recently and so we decided to try it and invited him to come along. We had read reviews and viewed pics on sites, so knew exactly what to expect which was casual (family) dining and nothing real fancy. That's what we enjoy! The service was excellent and we enjoyed several chats with the fabulous Ms. Emmy herself, who is a doll. We came for the Delmonico steak and prime rib which were excellent! The prime rib was so large that I could only ear half! We enjoyed the very tasty mixed salad and generous servings of fresh baked bread. We were waited on quickly and didn't wait long for our meals to come out. I had read a previous review which reviewer gave only 1 star with no redeeming qualities...to include a dis of the Old Fashioned cocktail coming with no orange slice. Seriously?? Knowing this and enjoying an "Old Fashioned" myself, for a little table chuckle I simply cut an orange slice at home and tossed it in a baggy & into my purse...VOILA ORANGE SLICE in my cocktail! The restaurant did fill up and had groups of families and friends...a testament about the love for the place and why they have great reviews. I cannot say enough about the whole experience. We will definitely return soon and are left wondering why we didn't know about this gem sooner!

Such a wonderful place, great service and friendly staff. The food was amazing and comforting, definitely worth stopping in and giving this place a try!

The restaurant had great food with prices to match. I went for dinner and the line was out the door, but it was well worth the wait. The staff were a little eager to take my plates before I was done eating, but that's better than them not cleaning up.

Wow authentic German food hidden like a gem at deland Florida! A family business for 40 years and Emmy and her family are going strong and stronger! Everything is fantastic! Service is first rate! We’ll definitely come back!

Best Prime Rib ANYWHERE, great service, perfect quaint atmosphere. Emmy herself greeted our table. Always a wonderful experience at Emmy’s Time Out Tavern ♥️

Just like great grandmother Nanna Stockton Salad Red Cabbage Potatoes Sauerkraut Pork Shank and a half loaf of Bread enough food for a family meal

Wow......this is Delands best kept secret. Out of the hundreds of restaurants I've been to over the past 50 years....out of 27 countries....this is absolutely THE best! Small , quiet , clean....with the best service....fresh food you'll ever try.... something for everyone. If you are in the zone.....do yourself a treat.... you'll go back. HIGHLY recommended.

Our dear friend Belinda invited us to join her for dinner at one of her favorite restaurants in Deland. There were four of us all together, three of whom traveled nearly an hour to meet. It was definitely worth the trip! The atmosphere and decor was very clean, quaint, warm, inviting. I personally loved it and it brought back some memories of some of the restaurants my dad owned when I was growing up. The staff was very friendly and efficient, including Emmy herself who sat us and traveled from table to table to be sure her customers were satisfied… and we were! I must note that Joanne, our server, was seriously superb in every way! Our friend Belinda is half German, and one in our group, Joe, was stationed in Germany many years ago. He was so looking forward to this dining adventure! And he was not disappointed! Belinda started off by ordering the giant pretzel! It was definitely giant… and delicious! Nice course salt, tender, cheese dipping sauce and plenty for the four of us! The prime rib was one of the best I’ve ever tasted, including a delicious unique sauce on the side along with a second choice the traditional horseradish sauce. The meat was extremely tender and very tasty, seasoned perfectly. The schnitzel (pork) was so, so good, tender and full of flavor! The side dishes were also good, especially our favorite, the German fried potatoes! Oh my word! I wish I would’ve thought to order a couple of sides to go! And the bread loaf that came out within a minute of our being seated was served with Kerry Gold butter! Wow! The food was a great complement to the company! We will be back again! PS tried several times to upload photos but it just wouldn’t work, sorry!

I really, really enjoy this place. I've been coming here for my girlfriend's work Christmas party for the past two years, and I have absolutely no complaints. This is your classic, in the middle of a bunch of neighborhoods, local bar kind of hole-in-the-wall gem that you will never accidently find. You'll only come here if you're told to come here by a friend. Well, I'm that friend. The staff are about the nicest folk you'll ever meet. Nothing about them overtly strikes me as German, but that doesn't matter. With every entree, you get bread, soft and supple, and your choice of a soup of salad, or both. The soup I've had both years was a beef soup, which was rich and deep with flavor, along with a nice amount of veggies. I barely even use a spoon with this. I just go in for the slurps. Now, the salad is very interesting. It's literally slices of tomatoes and cucumbers all thrown around on each other on a plate and slathered with some sort of creamy-ish dressing. It's very rustic and simple and delicious. Use that bread to sop of the rest of the remaining dressing on the plate. The entrees also come with either a baked potato or German fried potatoes. Pro-tip, listen to me now, order the fried potatoes, and ask them to make them extra crispy for you. You have not had better potatoes in the last year, I promise you. I wanted to order more just to-go so I could take them home. I was really impressed here. Now, for the entrees themselves, I love schnitzel. And if you shop at Aldi, you might love schnitzel, too. So I asked which is the best one, and my friendly server suggested the Kase Schnitzel (Pan-fried until Golden Brown, topped with a three-cheese sauce). I've never had a schnitzel covered in cheese before, but I was down for anything. So the schnitzel they serve is massive, which is usually a sign of a restaurant that prioritizes quantity of quality, but that's not the vibe I was getting here. They took their quality meat, pounded it out very effectively, and fried it beautifully. The inside was not dry, the outside was crispy and well seasoned, and the cheese on top was actually very welcome. They didn't just throw Kraft singles on top. It was a nice, subtle compliment to the plate.I also got to sample the Wiener Schnitzel (A great Austrian favorite" Pan-fried until golden brown. Served with German Potatoes & Red Cabbage). Same great dish, minus cheese, add red cabbage. It was solid red cabbage. If you like red cabbage, you'll like it. If you don't like red cabbage, start, because you'll need this freshness and acidity to cut through the heavy rest of the meal.Overall, this place is truly a diamond in the rough. If you're reading this and are even a little bit interested, please come here. And invite me.
