Tried to go to Duval Street last week and were told the outdoor space was closed and indoor dining was all that was available. We looked indoors and there we only two tables so we left and said we would come back another time. Tonight, unfortunately, turned out to be that time. We sat outdoors and were the only people other than servers that we saw in our 90 minute dining experience. We eat out 5 or 6 nights every week so we see a lot of restaurants and are patient diners, particularly during off season. As it turned out, the service was the only thing I could complement. We were informed that the appetizer that we came for, shrimp ceviche, was not available. Yes they have shrimp and yes, they have citrus juice, but no shrimp ceviche. We were then informed there were other items on the menu not available tonight. My wife finally ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Poor boy and the bun it was served on was truly inedible - hard as a rock as if it had been softened in a microwave and then cooled. I had a good, but unremarkable grouper sandwich. When the final check came I noticed that there was a charge for $2.00 labeled “on the rocks.” When I asked about it I was informed that I ordered a premium scotch and that those are served neet. The “on the rocks” charge was literally for my extra “ice.” On the way out, I stepped inside to see the owner/manager. There were no customers seated inside and the employees informed me that no manager/owner was present. I recounted my concerns and someone mumbled sorry. I told them that I write a food column for the hundreds of residents of Cape Harbour and asked that they inform the owner that I would be advising those residents that Duval Street is a “no go!) There are too many dining options of this caliber in Cape Coral to support such a poorly run establishment.
Unfortunately, it was block party night which they only offered an abbreviated menu. We order hot dogs, chicken tenders and shrimp basket. Everything came out cold. Fries were not done. Flimsy and cold and the shrimp was crispy on outside but cold in the middle. For a upper scale dining spot, it was a real disappointment. The only up side was our waitress Tianna.
I really enjoyed having dinner and drinks with friends on the big, open porch. Our bartender/server Cindy, is the best server I've had in ages. I felt that the food quality for the price wasn't great, but we would go back for drinks. Tuesday is live entertainment, so great if you want to be entertained. Not so great if you want conversation with your friends.
Really went downhill
First time here. We had a party of six and very few people in the restaurant. The special was Prime Rib which four of us ordered. Must say this was the worst cut prime rib. Not tender at all even tough to cut with a steak knife. Undercooked for 3 of us. We did bring it to server's attention. First time at Duvals and probably won't go back.
This place is a MUST every time we come to Cape Coral!
The drinks were great, the apps and the entrees we “OK”. The best thing we ate were the stuffed mushrooms. The conch fritters were still raw inside, at least I thought so, the wife wasn’t sure and didn’t want to send them back. Didn’t look like the batter was cooked all the way through. We both got ceaser salads that were kind of under dressed. She thought the taste of the dressing was off. I didn’t notice it. She got the mahi sandwich. It was a very nice piece of fish, but it was rather dry. I got the crab cakes, which tasted like the same thing they stuffed the mushrooms with. Not a lot of crab meat, mostly bread. No idea what the sauce was on top. If I’d noticed the sauce in the menu description, I would have asked them to put it on the side. The menu seemed quite limited. Only 6 full entrees, 3 seafood, 3 meat. About a dozen “handheld” options. The ambiance and service were great. But 3 drinks, a couple apps and lackluster entrees for $150 (with 20% tip), won’t have us coming back for anything more than drinks and listening to the music. Which was also pretty good.
The food was ok; Not bad not great. Service was very good. I felt the food did not match the price they were charging.
I understand being short staff but the service was terrible. The baked potato came out plain, not cooked and was ordered loaded not even butter. The prime rib came out with no knife to cut it with. There we 6 of us and 2 meals came out and over 20 minutes later the rest came out. They have a sign that says 1/2 appetizers before 6 and we sat down at 5:30 and ordered them. We were billed full price and told us that we don’t do that anymore even though this is a sign that says they do. 5 or more tables ordered food after we did and got theirs before before we did. Our waitress was terrible and we were very patient with her and it would take forever to get a drink. We have been there before and it was never this bad. If it wasn’t for the music we would have gotten up and left. And when we tired talking to manager they didn’t care at all.
Unfortunately, we had a party of 6 and we went for the $17.95 Prime Rib on a Saturday night. Three of us had the Prime Rib and Three had other meals. Our waitress was great—she did a good job.The prime rib was tasteless and very fatty. The sides were overcooked and the baked potato was cold. Also, the restaurant was cluttered and messy with boxes piled here and there and unorganized. We really wanted to like this place because it’s close and a good idea.
