Recently ate here with my wife and we were disappointed. We really love Poppo’s but the last couple of times we have been to this location the staff has been rude, and the food has not been cooked well. We went there recently and I got a big bowl, the rice was so hard and crunchy it was hard to eat. My wife got a big bowl and she could barely finish her food because of the hard rice. Also, there was a hair in my food.Overall, we still love Poppo’s but this location recently has not been great.
Our family LOVES Poppo’s food. It’s amazing. But the last few times I have ordered online I feel like they have skimped on ingredients on top of the prices going up due to inflation. This is their “big bowl” which now costs $12.50 plus tip (tip is optional) and the bowl is about halfway full. This is the second time I’ve ordered online and comehome to find that this happened with a bowl. Its also happened when we’ve ordered their burritos for pickup. It’s never happened when I’ve ordered in person at the restaurant, they always fill the bowls and burritos up to the top with ingredients. Not sure if it’s because they’re busy and just toss online orders together as quick as they can or what. Just a little disappointing is all :(
So tonight after driving for awhile I decided to pull off the road to spend my money at one of my favorite restaurants (Poppo's Taqueria).I've never been to this location before and was happy to find it (off University, in Sarasota).I arrived 5 minutes until close, walked up to the counter and waited to be helped. After waiting a minute or two I was greeted with we are closed. The guy behind the counter explained me was the manager and the owners live out of state and the best I could do is leave a comment online. By the time I left, walked back to my car and looked at my phone the time was then 8:58pm. If this company want to pick and choose which customers they help between their posted hours of operations, then fine. I will find another establishment to spend my money at. It's hard to say this but I'm no longer a loyal customer.
Used to eat here on a weekly basis, in the last few months they have reduced portions, increased prices, and are now even upcharging 2$ for the smallest tong grabbed portion of beef iv ever seen. "Big bowl" with carne asada that used to be 10$ was almost 16 bucks today and I was hungry after. Supply chain excuse or w.e, none of the surrounding businesses increased their price 50% and reduced portions. Save your money and just eat at chipotle.
For the money, there should be more. A side of chips is not an unreasonable expectation. My companion ordered a quesadilla. They literally melted a slice of plastic wrapped cheese onto a tortilla. A 6-year-old could do that in a microwave and not charged 10 bucks for it.I will stick to three pepper burrito great food great value.

Asked a few local guys where to eat, and both agreed Poppo's was a good spot!We arrived around 5pm and the place was empty. One couple sat outside eating. 3 people were working and were eager to help.I ordered a chicken burrito. The flour tortilla was fresh made right in front of me. Like from the dough. Awesome. My wife ordered two pork tacos. Same thing, both of her tortillas were fresh made.It's set up very similar to a Chipotle In terms of flow. You pick your protein, toppings and what not, and it's assembled down the line.Flavor was good. I wouldn't say it was over the top. Food was super fresh, guacamole was tasty. We would def come back the next time we are in town.Great service, good food.
my family and I eat at Poppos 3 to 4 times a week, I cannot understand why they are constantly out of guacamole, nearly once a week. Chipotle never runs out. This has been going on for years. Maybe one day they will get their procedures in order. It's not complicated
Sign on the door says they open at 11:00 AM. Not when I went. @ 11:07 door was still locked and not a soul in the kitchen, so I went elsewhere in the plaza to eat. In general, this is one of my favorite TexMex restaurants. I recommend them, but not at 11:00 apparently.
