The escargot was tasteless. It was supposed to be garlicky. It was in some cream sauce with no garlic. Crab cakes were only fair. Baked cod dinner, I had to ask for salt. I don't think they use any salt, much less garlic. The beef medallions with the sweet sauce was tender, but not much of a taste. The sauce was sweet. For the $100 spent on dinner with no drinks, extremely disappointing.
Great personal service and wonderful food!! Easy location and we will be back! The seafood is good and the steaks are amazing.
Always, always love our time eating here. The food and service is always spot on. It is also fun to try a new meal and taste their desserts. I already want to go back. Reminds me of eating in Santa Fe, NM. I really appreciate the love that comes in each presentation of plated food.
Sorry folks. My first time going to MJ's. Reading the reviews made me go. But, our food was so overcooked, it was uneatable. First time for me using a knife to cut fish. Medium rare steak was cooked to well done. And the sad thing is the wait staff never noticed the full plates returning to the kitchen. The food is very expensive and I was expecting a fine dining experience and delicious food. The reviews everyone is giving makes me wonder if the chef didn't show up for work and it was an off day. I will spend my $500.00 meal somewhere that appreciates the "fine-dining" concept.
My girlfriend and I had a really nice experience here. My steak was great, the cocktails were very good.I'm leaving this review just to commend how the staff handled a situation with my companion's meal - she had forgotten to ask for the sauce to be omitted from her chicken. It was totally her fault, she knew it, and she was just planning on scraping it off as best she could. We're not the type to complain at restaurants, especially when the mistake is on us.She didn't say a thing about it, but our waiter still picked up on it from her body language alone. He whisked our plates away, and in a few minutes came back with everything perfectly done how she liked it. It was handled so elegantly and casually. I was impressed. We had a really good time.
Quiet atmosphere. Very friendly and attentive service. The blackened jumbo shrimp appetizer was very good. I subbed for Brussel sprouts with my marsala, incredibly delicious. Excellent experience.I'll have to go back again to try dessert, we were too full. This is fine dining, expect to pay higher end prices.
I read a lot of reviews before coming here and many of them were great. A few weren’t so great. I take my fiancé to the best places and we both are very particular about our food. This place is worth every penny! The service was great the food was flavorful and we had all three courses. I would highly recommend bringing that special someone here for that high class feeling. I would give it ten stars if I could.
We decided to have our Valentine’s Day dinner here after a couple recommendations. We won’t be returning. We started with the French onion soup and the goat cheese salad. Both were very good. The onions were sweet and the broth complex. The salad had plenty of goat cheese and a delicious raspberry dressing. Unfortunately it went downhill after that.We both ordered the filet and they were brought out completely raw inside. My whipped potatoes had no flavor and were in desperate need of seasoning. Our server took one look at the steaks and said “oh, those are blue”. She took them both and had them remade.Someone else brought them back and said the server would return to check on us. She never did. One steak came back cooked ok but the other was still extremely rare, we did not eat it. Both steaks were very bland again and severely under seasoned. We ordered the chocolate lava cake and specifically asked if it had a liquid center which we were told it did. When they brought it back in about 3 minutes I knew it was not a lava cake. Of course when we cut in to the center it was completely cooked through with no “lava”.We still had not seen our server until the check was brought. Not only was our Valentines dinner ruined, they fully charged us for our undercooked steaks. Any decent restaurant would have taken one off the bill or given a discount. This is definitely not a $175 dinner.
It had been several years since my last special meal at this establishment so I returned with a friend for another tasty meal. Our table was next to a small bar (very loud at intervals) and the lighting was quite dim ( difficulty viewing menu ). Several steak specials priced over $50. I requested the Chicken Marsala and the waiter suggested it be served with pasta and I agreed. My friend and I had a cocktail and ordered salads before the meal which were good. The entree arrived about an hour after it was ordered. My pasta was very oily? and the chicken was chewy and unappealing. We did order and split an apple dessert which was tasty( ice cream and caramel sauce). We had the remains of our entrees boxed and the bill arrived. Imagine my surprise when I saw the $5 ( extra) charged for the pasta. Our service was perfunctory at best. There was a waitress that was serving another table close to ours and she was charming. I microwaved the remains of my food for lunch the next day- sadly, not edible and was thrown away. The quality had not remained. I must say the tables where full but I will not return nor will I recommend it.
Fabulous hidden little gem of a 5* restaurant on the outskirts of Bradenton. Great decor and atmosphere, large creative menu and extensive wine list. Can’t fault it! Eat restaurant we have found in the area. Highly recommend
