My wife and I have been looking for a good BBQ place in south Florida and this place is legit. The pulled pork is what we both got and it’s good enough to eat without any BBQ sauce. That’s how you can tell you’re dealing with good BBQ in my book. We also got the Mac n cheese, applesauce, and the cornbread and they were all amazing. I was a big fan of their Carolina mustard sauce too! If there’s one thing I’d have them change, it’s the size of the side dishes. You pay over $3 and it comes in this tiny cup and you definitely are left wanting more. Overall great place!
I really liked the wings and the cornbread. The ribs fell off the bone.
Food- 2 stars Service- 4 stars Decor- 3 stars Value- 1 star I’ve been going to this place for over 20 years. Haven’t been in a while but last night was sheer disappointment. The staff were nice when I called to place my pickup order and all went well when I picked it up. Ordered a rack of baby back ribs with fries, bake beans, a half chicken, an order of corn bread and a slice of key lime pie. All this for almost $60. First the good; - key lime pie was tasty but they used cool whip from a can instead of real whipped cream. I hate that! -corn bread was good and fresh - rib portion was good The Bad; - ribs were dry -chicken was so over cooked the wing was burnt - no barbecue sauce unless you pay? -baked beans tasted like they were from a can and super small portion put in a condiment container. Really, are beans that expensive? -waffle fries were practically uncooked (see picture). -key lime pie slice was small I called to complain about the fries just to let them know their kitchen is taking shortcuts. They offered me a free fry next time. Sadly, there won’t be a next time. All in all, a Ho hum experience. You can tell that they really aren’t interested in getting out the best food they can and it definitely shows. So many better places to eat for even less money.
My wife and I came for lunch on a weekday. It was busy though not crowded. Service was a little slow. We got BBQ ribs and chips. The food was above average but filling. Decent prices.
This is the BEST! I'm from Virginia and this restaurant captures Southern flavors at their best. Their pulled pork is mouth watering as well as their pulled chicken. And the baked beans along with the Texas toast makes it heaven.
Best pulled pork sandwich I’ve had in years. Can’t leave without trying their sweet potato chips. Very nice staff and service to wrap it all up!
It's very good, for Florida. Ribs are yummy and flavorful but a bit overdone in my opinion. Not moist enough but very good. The wings were amazing! Crisp and juicy with wonderful seasoning. The Mississippi sweets are just sweet potato chips. Good but just chips. The fries are waffle fries and again good but not salted enough. I know that I am being a little picky but I love BBQ and was very happy to find Mississippi Sweets. Maybe the excitement for amazing BBQ made me super critical?? Long story short, we will be back. So it was very good as there are so many great places in Boca.
Haven’t been here in many years and today is a good indicator why. Today is super bowl Sunday so maybe they are overwhelmed. My girl and I ordered a full slab of baby back ribs to share. They were burnt and barely any meat on them. I told the server who by the way was very helpful and knowledgeable in the beginning. She asked if she could replace it. Now in my days as a server if my guest doesn’t like their food I will remove it from the check and do whatever I can to make it right. She asked what she could replace it with and I gave her 2 sandwiches that were less in cost than the full order of ribs and she did not want to make that happen. She said we had eaten half the order so we would get half replaced. Well 2 of us are eating and we ate 3 ribs each hoping it would get better and find more meat. I pray the next time someone mentions going here I remember the burnt meatless ribs and server that didn’t want to fix the situation properly. Paid $45 and now I’m at Arbys to actually get some meat. ??
Small store front bbq restaurant. Very casual place, nothing stands out. Staffs were friendly, but did not offer any recommendation when told this was our first time there. We tried the pulled pork sandwich with side of Mac and cheese, and bbq beef sandwich with fries. Pork was mediocre at best, a bit dry. You would definitely need to put on plenty of sauce. Beef was a little better, but they just didn't impress any of us. Fries was ok, but the mac and cheese tasted like one an instant boxed made. We were really excited to try this place based on the many good reviews, but we left wondering if maybe we just had a bad luck with it. Perhaps we would return and give it another try.
I jumped on the web to see when they opened today and thought I would look at a few reviews. We have been going to Mississippi since they opened about 30 years ago. Over the years we have seen an expansion of business and many change overs in staff. It is not what it used to be as far as food goes. Mostly we order the natchez chicken and burgers as they remain quite good. The wings and ribs aren't as good as they use to be. Catfish is a usually good and the brunswick stew seems better some times than others. Treads (french fried in house sliced potatoes) and the sweets (ff'd sweet potato chips) are good when they are crisp, but that is not always the case. The staff is always friendly and the prices are reasonable so we will continue to patronize them and hope that the somewhat downward trend in food quality reverses. (All that said, the couple of times we mentioned our disappointment we were comped the mean or a new order was made.)
