Pricey for Wilmington and wasn't wowed. Caesar salad was fine but not special (lacked acidity) and mussels were little rubbery.
My favorite thing about the menu at Le Cavalier is the inclusion of North African flavors, a wonderful addition to tired and true French recipes.
As always, the food and service excel. And Rob know how to make the most amazing drinks!

Le Cavalier serves a classic French brasserie menu. Its not too complex or precious. Someone taught the staff how to make frites correctly, the way they do they Belgium where doing them right is a matter of national pride.
First, the room was beautiful. Architecturally stunning with very please interior design. We opted to start the evening with a drink at the bar which had plenty of available seats but a piles of dirty dishes and glasses heaped at both ends of the bar. Not particularly welcoming or appealing. We adjourned to our table and waited 20 minutes for our drinks. Dinner took equally as long. The service was very slow. Fish was delightful - steak frittes tough. Overall not a pleasant experience.
Not a lot of vegetarian options. But when we asked them for vegan options, they were more than happy to make a dish vegan and it was really good.
Beautiful facility with great food. The name, menu, and wine list give the impression of an upscale French restaurant. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive, but their style seemed more suited to a casual dining restaurant. The biggest disappointment was that the background music was too loud and more suited to a bar (pop rock uptempo). I would go back for the food, but the atmosphere could come up a notch.
Cocktails excellent, fromage, charcuterie, fois gras and warm olives outstanding. Also great mains. Comped mom's dessert bc it was her birthday, very classy. Service top notch, attentive and thoughtful. Room stunning. Highly recommend.
I attended a reception and stayed at Hotel Du Pont for the weekend. I used open table to make reservations so I knew I had a spot for breakfast. The food is slightly different but still good. The decor and service are 10 stars. I would recommend this to anyone and the Hotel also. A great place to visit
