Let me say that I never write reviews, however the food that I ordered from this restaurant was so bad!I ordered a the meatloaf kids meal with cabbage and Mac and cheese. I need to first start off with the meatloaf. It was mushy and drowning in salty bbq. The mac and cheese was aslo salty and was the burnt scraps from the last of the mac in cheese in the pan. Never order from this restaurant at closing time. You will receive the scraps! Also the cabbage tasted just plain weird.I will NEVER order from this restaurant EVER AGAIN!
This was the absolute worst soulfood I’ve ever had. The frozen fish wasn’t completely cooked, the Mac and cheese was mushy and overcooked. The collard greens were ok. On top of that the staff was rude! $32 in the trash
Consistently Amazingly Delicious!Fried salmon platter* with baked mac&cheese and collard greens. They made sure the fried salmon was protected from any juices from the greens. Salmon had a nice crunch and was so well seasoned I didn’t want to put anything on it! And the inside was still perfectly moist! The mac&cheese is ridiculously delicious, and the greens are always perfectly tender. This is a must try?*Bread not include.
Local soul food spot for me. Rather small. There's seating available upstairs. This is a very busy restaurant. I usually try to call my order in for takeout. The food is good and the desserts are tasty. The last time I got food it seemed a little salty to me, that was a first.
We tried a lot of things on the menu and my rating would be higher if the food wasn’t soooo salty!! They use real greens, not the canned stuff. The mac was decent although the elbows were over-cooked, the cornbread had good flavor but I had to remove the top layer because it was burnt (they should have tossed the pan and made a new batch honestly). The fried whiting was good, the baked and blackened salmon were dry but had nice flavor, the rice it came with was bland, my son had jerk chicken which I didn’t taste but he said it was good, the chicken wings were our favorite and aside from being very salty, they were seasoned well, a good size and reasonably priced. The sweet potatoes were decent and not overly sweet. And the fries were good also. Our main complaint is that it was just too salty to enjoy, but I’m going to give them another try at some point before ruling them out.
I went there on Friday afternoon. The service was not the best or the friendliest. I worked in the customer service field and we had to “WOW” the customer. I was not wowed to say the least. I ordered 2 platters. Mine was the catfish, greens, yams and cornbread. I was surprised that cornbread didn’t automatically come with the platter. Once I got home my fish was soggy from the green juice spilling into it and my cornbread was burnt. I called and the manager told me to bring it back which is a 20 minute drive. When I got there was she not apologetic and swore to me the cornbread was not burt. For my new platter I asked for double yams because I didn’t want the same problem with the juice from the greens. When I got home the catfish was borderline burnt. The yams I’m still trying to figure out. I gave my dogs the fish and tossed the yams. $16.50 down the drain. I normally don’t do reviews but the food and service at this place was not up to par. However, the sweet potato pie was good. I even have pictures of the food. This was my second and last time purchasing from them.
So I give this place 4 stars based on the food, and I really want to give them 5 stars based on the consistency of the food. But when I tell you I’m sick of the terrible customer service.... GOOD GRIEF. The lady with the purple locs. (Owner I believe) is NASTY.... terrible attitude... I’ve been going there for almost 3 years, and at one point imma be honest it was almost everyday. To the point EVERYBODY INCLUDING THE COOKS, would speak to me by name when I walked in. Everyone seemingly kind and friendly, but she (owner) greets you with attitude or almost as if you’re bothering her by being there. One day I walked in, two of the servers greet me, openly and welcoming, I place my order with the owner at the register... she then goes, I need to see some ID.... and I said... HUH?! You need to see my ID? I come here twice a week, AND everybody that works for you, just spoke to me... right in front of you. She replies..... “well I don’t know you”.... and like.... was real brass With it. Come to find out I’m not the first or second person she’s offended. But.... That food keeps me coming back tho, HA HA HA shout out to her POLITE employees who make sure the experience isn’t so bad.
This place used to be my favorite place almost 2 years ago until they left out one of my sides while I was pregnant. When my husband went to pick up my missing side, they were rude to him although he provided a receipt and the platter so we boycotted. Coming to present day, we decide to try again and we order our favorite ( baked salmon, potatoe salad, Mac and cheese, and broccoli). The salmon is small and dry, the broccoli huge and unseasoned, and my potatoe salad is missing. They were more worried about showing an I.D. for my debit card purchase than making sure our order was complete and the quality of it.
This is the best soul food I have ever had in my life. The fried wings are well seasoned and crispy. I say get 6 because they are so good you’ll be happy if you any leftover. The Mac and cheese is everything you would want it to be and so are the greens. Expect a little wait because everyone is here for the food and it’s all made from scratch daily. Fresh fresh banana pudding. Sooo good. Will be coming back soon. Well worth the 45 minute drive.
I honestly can’t believe this place doesn’t have 5 stars. I found out about this place from my local barber in Middletown, DE. I was telling him about how I missed the taste of food in Philly. This restaurant is located on a tight one-way street with limited parking, I also had to wait approximately 1 hour for my order, but the wait was well worth it. I realized while waiting that I could have ordered through DoorDash for pickup, so I’ll be doing that next time. Most places I go to have dried overcooked mac and cheese, or food that taste bland and without much seasoning or flavor. This place is truly a good place to eat. I can’t say enough good things about it. The restaurant gives you $30 worth of food for $15. Let’s pause and let that settle in… I had to come home and divide my platter because one platter is a meal for two days. I wish I knew about this place sooner. I’ve been in Delaware eating mediocre food for 3 years before now.
