On a whim, I stopped at Bonchon because a couple of weeks ago, during a great visit to Backyard Birds, I noticed that the restaurant was coming soon.Bonchon was busy, which I took to be a good sign. I ordered boneless spicy wings for $9. After a brief wait, my order was ready. The ‘wings’ appeared to be perhaps two chopped chicken strips which were not crispy accompanied by a stingy 1/4 cup of slaw. The snack was extremely disappointing for the price. As a result, I am inspired to make my own Korean fried chicken. Buh bye Bonchon!
I've eaten at Bonchon Chicken across the country and I enjoy this chain a lot. I was really happy to know that there was one opening in my local area and that I wouldn't have to travel to Philly for it.I can speak honestly as this is without a doubt the worst Bonchon Chicken I've been to. I ordered the 12 wings with soy garlic & coleslaw and I don't mind the wait for food because it comes with the chain. The coleslaw was very bland not what I was expecting. The chicken looked like what you would expect from Bonchon, but half of my wings were soggy and lukewarm while the other half were crunchy and hot. So much inconsistency here if I'm waiting for chicken I want it fresh, hot, and that crunch you get from your typical Korean fried chicken.I hope that this place fixes these problems, but for right now it is doubtful I'll be coming back.
Anyone familiar with Bonchon knows two things:1. You might be waiting 60+ minutes for your food. I remember in NoVA waiting 2hrs for my food.2. It's very spicy.Last time I went, I got lucky. Less than 20 minute wait, and chicken was spicy, crispy, and delicious.
A new Korean fried chicken franchise in Newark, DE. Korean food options are just so so, however, they have really good fried chicken. My favorite is boneless wings (half spicy and half soy garlic). I was craving japchae (stir-fry sweet potato noodle) so I decided to give this another try at bonchon and was kind of disappointed, especially at the price point. Anyhow, if you like fried chicken, definitely try this place! Get the pickled radish cause it’s so refreshing eaten with the fried chicken.
Excited that Delaware finally has Korean fried chicken! Was surprised at how fast this place opened considering the Grove is still under massive construction. I think they definitely rushed the opening as they haven't hashed out the technology issues yet. Upon finding out it was open, I tried to place an online order on multiple occasions, only to find the website ordering not working. Don't even bother with the app, it just freezes and times out. Since I couldn't place an online order, I phoned in my order for the 6W/2D combo. When I arrived, the cashier informed me that my order was received as 6W only and that if I wanted the 2D, it would be another 15 minutes. I wasn't going to wait for 2 drumsticks. I'll give it another shot sometime in future, but only if they fix the online ordering.
I have been coming to bonchon for years; the one in philly, so when they opened the one in Newark I was happy there was one finally closer to me. We ordered chicken I asked for extra sauce on the wings. We got our wings they were good but felt dry.i was upset because I had asked for extra sauce and they were like almost dry.
Chicken is excellent, but . . .Service is extremely slow. They got my order wrong - twice. It came in 2 separate bags, 10 minutes apart. The waiting area was SRO because of the delays. The cashier had zero familiarity with his machine. Had to ask for help twice . The credit card terminal accepts cards, but the NFC tap and go function is inoperative. The ordering kiosk screens arent working. There is a christmas tree of 4 or 5 tablets displaying incoming uber and Doordarsh orders piling up.12 people in the kitchen cooking. 4 more at the register, tring to placate customers. Two corporate trainers on site, one in the kitchen, the other out front.Chicken was perfectly cooked, and i thought excellently seasoned. That said, Bonchon "spicy" is 2 notches higher than Popeyes or KFC.I'm rooting for you, Bonchon. But fix this stuff ASAP. You barely a qualify as "open for business" .
1st, Ordered plain, received spicy.2nd, The flavors are so bad. It is like chemical spicy … also tried garlic, what the hell… this thing has nothing to do garlic. I can only taste sugar…Conclusion: this thing has nothing to do with any “genuine Korean fried chicken “ I have ever tasted or watched on YouTube.Awful!
Bonchon in a fast casual counter service spot! Great staff opening a new location well and the chicken was moist, tasty, and adequately sauced. Will definitely be crowded with pickup orders during lunch rush though.
Just left here a few minutes ago, we ordered the soy garlic drumstick and wings and the bulgogi fried rice. The chicken was really good, nice and crispy and the flavor was savory. The fried rice on the other hand was too small for $15. It was in a black standard take out container and the rice was like a cup size and was spread around the container to make it look like it's filled the whole container. It was also very oily and barely bulgogi meat in there. The place is quite small, we had to eat in the front area and it got so crowded that people are basically watching you eat, for someone who wants to enjoy their food without being looked at this may not be the right place for you, but if you want a take out chicken, then go for it.Overall, I think it's overpriced, definitely comes in small portion, and it does not really fill you up. I think it's great for fried chicken lovers with a hint of Asian flavor.
