Beautiful place, very fun, get the absinthe. Would go back.
We went for brunch. The mussel was not fresh at all. Fried chicken has no flavor. Omelet was falling apart. Draft beer is great, and service is great.
Pork schnitzel was good but sauerkraut was raw (Not remotely German style). Cellar dining was extremely loud and cramped. Nothing to write home about.
Our server, Tyler, was excellent! Great beer knowledge, prompt, and attentive.
First time at Sovereign. Food was excellent â- especially the mussels. Service was also very good even with an inexperienced server not suggesting an alternative side dish. (By mistake, we got two orders of fries not realizing fries came with the mussels â- one order went to waste as it was completely untouched.) Price for the Kriek Lambic was over the top, but it sure was tasty! My biggest gripe was the noise level and dim lighting in the lower level of the restaurant. My dinner companion and I could not carry on a conversation and left without dessert because of our exasperation with the noise. Iâd like to go back in the OTHER dining area. But, the basement one is just noisy & devoid of any natural light. I wonât eat down there again.
The food was excellent. The menu is interesting, and the drink menu is extraordinary. The service was the only drawback. They may have been understaffed that day, but it was slower than anywhere Iâve been in the District. Friendly, but never acknowledged the uncommon intervals or wait-times. Iâd go back again, giving the benefit of the doubt for service. Not too many places in the DMV that deliver true Belgian cuisine at this admirable standard.
The service is excellent! Our waiter was fabulous and attentive. The food is good, but it's not Belgian. It's a mixture of American with German influence. The bottle list is excellent with several very difficult to find Belgian beers, and they have several Belgian beers on draft. The bar area was beyond lively and just noisy. We had to shout and use gestures to communicate. ð Definitely will go back, because of the aforementioned excellent bottle list.
The waiter we had tonight made a lot of mistakes. He mistakenly put one of our orders as a shared dish. Despite admitting to the mistake, he suggested that one of our part share food until the actual food came out. It was very weird. Been coming here for almost a year; and while todayâs service was subpar, we will still come back. That waiter definitely needs to up his game. No idea what was going on but he was making mistake after mistake. Like I said, never experienced this during our numerous previous times there.
Pleasant surprise and would recommend. A bit loud but that actually added to experience
Nice restaurant.
