Local fave. Friendly with good service.
We had a great meal, and we really appreciate the Parthenon and the Lounge as a great part of the community. For a full review, see https://johntannersbbqblog.wordpress.com/2022/01/19/the-parthenon-upper-connecticut-avenue-washington-dc/
We hadn't been in a while and forgot just how good the food is. For awful review, see John tanners bbq blog and search "parthenon"
We heard it was first-rate, but we had a disappointing delivery meal: my wife's Moussaka ($20) was good, but my Large Greek Salad ($13.25) with "lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions, dill, olives, and feta cheese" was 95% chopped lettuce, two wedges of tomato (so, half of one tomato), a couple of pieces of onion, there was dill? three olives and two pieces of feta. If we had eaten there, I would have returned it. Should have looked at the Trip Advisor reviews. Has the owner given up?
This was an extremely disappointing meal. I had not had a good experience at this restaurant previously, but a friend wanted to try it out and so I thought to give the Parthenon another try. Big mistake. I ordered the "Gyro Platter with Garnis." The gryo meat was practically inedible. A restaurant would typically cut the meet for a gyro from a rotating spit, but this clearly had not been done. The meat was not fresh, I suspect it had been frozen and they just microwaved it in order to heat it up. I gave up eating the meat after a few bites, I thought it might make me sick. I just ate the bread and the french fries, which had been sitting out too long before they were brought to our table. My friend's meal, which was more expensive than my gyro, was also a disappointment. I suspect the restaurant just is not getting a sufficient number of customers to be able to offer fresh food. The cost of my gyro and french fries, with tip and tax, was $22. One can get a far better gyro and fries at other Greek restaurants in DC such as Zorbas and Byblos Deli for barely half the price.
Clean, fresh ingredients, and courteous and warm service.
Just one is enough. People in the kitchen know there is a problem when one makes it on a plate. This should never happen.

Friendly waiter and pleasant outdoor seating. Delicious food!
We have been regular patrons of this restaurants for years. Nevertheless we have consistently encountered difficulties with the owner who has never hidden his inherent biases and tendency to discriminate against , even his most loyal patrons. Recently we encountered yet another example of his gross incompetence, lack of interpersonal skills & baseline racist attitude. After waiting patiently for more than half an hour for a seat during this difficult time of social distancing, we were thrown in the farthest corner of the open seating area, despite the availability of multiple better tables for our party of two. When we objected to their choice of seating , Gail, one of the hostesses unleashed her wrath on us, blaming Mayor Bowser for their poor choice of seating & total lack of ability in handling problems during these difficult times. We left without much ado & had a much better culinary & social experience at Silver downtown Bethesda. Shame on you Pete G, this was not a first. Racism has never been and will never be tolerated, even if you have a million photos with world leaders & celebrities hanging at the entrance of your restaurant. You are just another hypocrite who does not deserve our patronage. BTW, your so called, authentic Greek food, leaves a lot to be desired. Aside from the Saganaki & the grilled lamb chops, everything else is average at best. ?
