What a gem of a place. I was in town for the night and found this place by chance. I decided to treat myself and go all in for the 8 course omakase without restrictions. The chef prepared the most delicious dishes. The owner actually partially served me as well as our server. She was absolutely amazing. She was kind, knowledgeable, warm, and professional. You can tell she loves what she does. I was treated incredibly special and with great attention. If you are able to embrace this omakase experience for exactly what it is and enjoy the surprises, you will not be disappointed. I will come here every time I am in DC. The food and experience of the omakase was my best dining experience hands down.
All I can say is wow. The food at Takara 14 was amazing. The sushi and apps were unbelievable with such high quality. We ordered a few different things for dinner and I probably said "this is so good" a million times! I keep thinking about that sushi. The bartender, James, was also the best!! He made very tasty cocktails and created such a memorable experience for us. I will definitely be going back very soon...yum!
The Takara team does not disappoint. We have been celebrating some of our most important moments over dinner and drinks at Takara for almost a year now. The Michelin-star chef keeps the menu dynamic and delectable and the on-point host has a keen eye for impeccable service and a true guest experience. We appreciate the attention to details, delicious food and great service - and most of all - the great team at Takara! We will be back for our next big moment ð
Takara was... a struggle. It was a struggle to get seated, it was a struggle to put in our order, it was a struggle to get our check. Unfortunately, the shortage of support and staff in the food industry is very real and it's important to acknowledge that. The sushi is decent (it's not great) some of the fish came out warm and didn't feel sushi-grade (likely because it was warmer than I'm used to). It was difficult to order because the server was not familiar with the menu, but instead had to write down word-for-word what you were pointing to on the menu. The bartender was the owners friend who was covering for the evening, but should not be invited back... her drinks were flammable/undrinkable. When we needed something, it took ages to get it, including the check. When we were ready to leave, clearly dissatisfied but pleasant, the check came... along with a 10 minute speech from the owner. I feel terrible that quality restaurants are suffering from staff shortages, but when a customer just wants to leave, please let them. *Note: This restaurant automatically bills a gratuity/service charge of 20%.
The decor is a little tacky, everyone there was very friendly but the service was really slow. food was pretty good. happy hour drinks were ONE dollar off and the house wines were not good. cocktails were good. overall the entire experience was fine, but nothing to write home about.
What a wonderful experience!!
I cannot rave about this restaurant enough! Itâs a hidden gem in DC in the second floor. I was in town for a quick trip to explore DC and came across this beautiful restaurant. I decided to go with the 8 course chef special and let me just say every single bite was very fresh and delicious!! The chef was truly such a nice and friendly individual that really paid attention to detail and providing a great experience. Definitely make sure to try it out! It will absolutely not disappoint. The restaurant also has beautiful touch to its design really making it different than your average sushi restaurants. I got to meet with the owners and theyâre such down to earth people. Made the experience even more personable! Canât wait to be back again when Iâm in DC!
1. What kind of a sushi place doesn’t put the soy sauce on the table? The waiter literally just “poured” the soy sauce and left and we had to ask for it again.2. Not good at taking your order. Asked for rice on the outside but of course they forgot.3. Who serves sushi on a round plate!?4. The wines were horribly bad! I’ve had boxed wines better than what I paid $11 per glass.5. Their sashimi was half of the normal size comparing to other places.6. I couldn’t find much of Yellowtail in my sushi, maybe you can in the photos.Overall, won’t be going there a second time. I wouldn’t suggest it to you either. Such a bad experience when you spend $50 per person and get that food and service.
Takara 14 has amazing service and delicious food! We did the tasting menu and it was fabulous. I have a food allergy and they were incredibly responsive and made sure that I could eat everything. Great bar in the back and very yummy drinks as well. Highly recommend!
Loved it! The food was awesome. The ambience is fab. We had tableside visits from the owner and manager. The vibe is energetic. We'll be back.
