STAY AWAY! THIS IS NOT INDIAN FOOD!I was there with 13 more people and the restaurant had about 5 guests already. To which the guy told us to order everything at once as they are ‘BUSY’; we were the reason of them being busy! Anyway, We ordered drinks (kingfisher beer to be precise) and were served with below room temperature plus flat beer which was just the beginning of awful experiences.Later we placed an order and just to make it convenient for the server we noted it on a paper for him to avoid any confusion since we were a big group and orders can be messy. Still our rude and impractical server Mr. Farooq managed to screw the order and billed incorrectly..Here are some dishes that you should stay away from -1. Chicken Biryani - Literally was 6-7 tablespoons of rice with masala chicken.2. Butter chicken - Only color and would recommend it in lieu of dessert.3. Any Bread - we order naan, garlic naan, laccha paratha and all of it was burnt on one side and was undercooked on the other (this was a miracle itself)Finally when we tried to convince Mr. Farooq to replace the burnt breads then he judged us and finally told us that ‘oh! You guys are from India that’s why you are acting like this’I would highly recommend you to stay away from this place as it is filled with tasteless food and arrogant server.
!! COME HERE IF YOU WANT TO GET SERVED A PLATE FULL OF ARROGANCE INSTEAD OF GOOD FOOD !!This was an awful experience amongst all the wonderful places we visited in D.C.Lack of customer service attitude. The waiter was too arrogant to speak with a customer and felt we are being judged just because we are Indians.Every single person who comes in search for good food would complain if the restaurant charge $$ with a mandatory gratuity on the bill which we would have argued against for serving such BLAND and UNPALATABLE food but we rushed out as soon as we can to get good food.As a customer, asking for better service and good quality of food does not justify the comment waiter passes on our NATIONALITY, (stating you are Indian’s that’s why you are like this.)THIS STATEMENT MADE ME SO DISTURBED THAT I'd HAVE COMPLAINED THEM TO THE D.C OFFICE OF HUMAN RIGHTS.Apart from all this attitude thing, this restaurant had strange rules for the customers who do not have prior booking, according to their rule, the order will not be placed again if the restaurant is busy.( FYI - I can count the number of people on the fingers of one hand. So, imagine how busy this restaurant will be! :/ )After such stressful week It was the weekend, and we were in very high spirits to enjoy the night in DC with friends, but because of waiter’s comments on our nationality along with food, our mood was ruined on the very 1st day of our trip.I would go so far as to say it’s an insult to an Indian cuisine. Do not waste money at this restaurant.
So I usually never write reviews, but the sheer disappointment led me to as In my opinion this was the most awfully disgraceful restaurant that I ever visited. The waiter of the restaurant Mr. Farooq is one unhappy grumpy person that passes racist comments when we expressed issues with the bad quality of the food, which was clearly undercooked. After a long tiring day in DC this is definitely not the place you should be looking for a happy comfort food experience.
Terrible food and service! We came all the way from NYC and were craving Indian food. To our disappointment, we were told we could order only once??? How is one supposed to plan how much to order without even knowing the portion? Anyway, we ordered the following:- Dal & Rice (looked like leftover from the pot)- Laccha Paratha (Burnt)- The gentleman who took our orders told one of my friends on the table that were Indians & that's why we disliked the food & service! Can I just do 1/2 a star or maybe something in negative points? Ironical with the name though!
Amazing food and amazing service. Super affordable and quick. They gave us free dessert after. We were a huge table and wanted separate checks and they still did it for us with short notice.
Taj of India did not disappoint!! Ordered the Butter Chicken, garlic naan, and a mango lassi and the flavor of the butter chicken was amazing (next time I come in I will order it as a medium spice for some extra kick). The chicken was so tender too! Also best garlic naan I’ve had in a long time too!I will be back next time I’m in DC
Lovely place with outstanding food, good music, and super comfy chairs. The staff members are very welcoming and friendly. The menu seems to offer a good variety of food from different regions of India.
Taj of India is an excellent place and a perennial favorite of DC's Georgetown neighborhood. While I'm always satisfied with my experience here this time I would highly recommend the Lamb Vindaloo which is perfectly seasoned and the Paneer dishes which leave nothing to be desired. Arif has great hospitality and service and I can also recommend him highly. 5/5. Do come see for yourself!
Located in the heart of Georgetown, Taj of India brings an authentic Indian touch to a rather flavorless town. The meat platter was bountiful and perfect for two at a very competitive price. The service was excellent and both gentlemen were very professional. I highly recommend this place!
Taj of India was a delightful experience with the best and most authentic Indian food I have ever had! 10/10 must visit when in DC!! Will be coming here again!
