Want some wonderful “southern food?”You must go to this restaurant!! It’s a great place to call ahead and pick up your order to go. Southern food like your grandma makes. Great potato salad, corn bread, fried fish, and my favorite, fried chicken wings. You name it, they’ve got it!! Can’t find it? It’s Located across from the St. Elizabeths East Redevelopment in Ward 8.
Okay, let's just say "NASTY". I had been looking for hog maws & chitlings everywhere. Mr. Henry's, Levi's & Southpride. I saw they had some in a picture on Door Dash. I finally call & someone answers the phone. I ask the question "Do you have chitlings?", she said NO but we have hog maws. I was a little excited. So, I find the famous "Players Lounge"!! Go inside & think, it's okay this place is an old bar that serves really great food. I place my order & take a table & watch Law & Order on the TV. 3 tables are full & people coming to pick up & I hear phone orders coming in. 20 minutes later, the bartender tells me, it's ready. There was cut up cake & pies on counter. I asked the cost & she said I already put 2 in your bag. I'm like thanks, maybe when you get some chitlings I will be back. We said our goodbyes.I'm home getting my hot sauce & vinegar ready. I ordered 2 hogmaws dinners with collards, potato salad & corn bread for my daughter & I. It was about to go down.*Hogmaws - dirty garbage still attached & has this horrible taste*Collard - clean, cut perfect & a little sweet*Potato Salad - too sweet*Corn Bread - didn't waste my time* Cake - haven't triedI was never so disappointed. After searching grocery stores & every soul food place I could find. This just couldn't be possible. This garbage was bad. I wouldn't think about telling anybody to try. Not even someone I hate to eat the food out that place.Sorry, the worst $20 ever spent.
Love the food and the Atmosphere been eating there over the years good food Service and food is Delicious, Service Lunch and Dinner full Course meals ?????????
Liver and onions was meh, tasted either like leftovers or overcooked. Gravy was good though. Rice was mushy, greens were nasty and greasy and on the sweet side and cornbread dry. Cake as well. Cake icing was hard as if it's over a week old

I live in Oldtown Alexandria and unfortunately we don't have a lot of southern cooking options, but through DoorDash, I have been able to reclaim my southern/soul food roots in very fabulous fashion.Players Lounge has all the favorites and then some. I got the turkey wings, string beans, and stuffing. It was superb. I could almost hear my dad cooking in the kitchen.These folks know what they are doing, plus they have great personal, customer service! Give them your business and quick!!!!
I am never ordering from the again I gave them to MANY chances!!! I am missing 3 items from my orders this time and last time they sent me expired food that had a horrible smell. I called to inform them that I wanted cornbread and the lady that answered the phone was dismissive and rude. Tired of supporting businesses that lack common sense. This experience taught me you can make better food at home!
Food is good but not receptive to feedback. My Uber took over an hour and still wasn’t ready. Delivery time was 25-35 mins I paid for priority and my order wasn’t done 1hr later. I called to let them know my experience but guess what she said ok mam. I suggested editing the delivery time on the Uber eats app, she said she know. I order often but I’m done with this spot for sure. Highly recommend if you’re pressed for time DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE.
