Food was good. We did take out as were are visiting. They cannot customize dishes if you have dietary restriction. Overall a fun experienceVegetarian options: Good vegetarian options if Indian food
In Washington DC after visiting various attractions all day we went to Indian restaurants called Pappe! Every food item on a menu has some kind of twist and fusion but that does not compromise the authentic tastes of Indian food. The place has an amazing raw and authentic ambience. We tried Indian thali and it was awesome.
After having read the reviews and an article, we had a lot of expectations from this restaurant. The non- vegetarian food was good, however the vegetarian food was very disappointing. We ordered Chicken tikka and Prawn ambi. The chicken tikka was flavorful, had it been cooked in a tandoor it would have been amazing. You expect such a restaurant would have a tandoor!! The Laal Maas and Allepey Fish curry was very good too! On the other hand the flavors for the each and every vegetarian dish was as I said before disappointing. The dahi puri was 5 small puris with little channa, dahi and sauces. There wasn’t any garnishing of curds or sev or cilantro. You expect at least the puri sizes to be big and garnishing to be beautiful… nothing!! the pomegranates on the top made it edible adding a different flavor profile and texture. Coming to the Gobhi Manchurian, the batter seemed like it was all corn cornflour, so the gobhi was very chewy and difficult to eat, the flavor did not taste like Gobhi Manchurian, it was a version chilli gobhi. It’s surprising that the owners are originally from India because if you have eaten Gobhi Manchurian in India you would know it does not taste like this. Finally the naan tasted more like a paratha and pita bread!! It was called butter naan but there was no butter on it. Coming to the service, it’s sad when an Indian restaurant hires a white waiter who has not received diversity training, meaning treat with respect regardless of their race, background, culture etc. The restaurant was not packed, so this waiter did not even have the courtesy to speak with us or engage with us while we were trying to figure out the menu. He seemed like he did not have any time for us. Bottom like, will we go again? No…anyone who is well versed with Indian food would be disappointed especially with the vegetarian food. Is the non- vegetarian food at that price worth it, no it’s not. Unfortunately it is catered for people who don’t have much experience with Indian food.
The food was excellent, I found the flavors to be extremely unique. The jamun was the only let down, though the ice cream made up for it.The service was bad - enough to ruin the dining experience. Our waiter was not courteous and couldn’t care less about us.
I love Indian food and have eaten it at venues all over the world. I ate at PAPPE last night and it is, by far, my new FAVORITE restaurant! They take a subtle, yet innovative twist on traditional Indian flavors without losing any authenticity. Utterly delicious. And the cocktails...I want to try them all. It is clear the Chef prioritizes fresh and healthy foods, which I appreciate, and the staff was helpful and kind. I will be going out of my way to visit Pappe often. Be sure to make a reservation as it was pretty busy for a Tuesday night!
Fantastic service, greeted the moment we walked in, the waiter and service staff were extremely attentive, constantly refreshing our waters. The Old Fashion from the bar was mixed perfectly. Somosa's came out remarkable fast, the food was seasoned so well (extra spicy for my Husband, Super Mild for me). We picked this at random while visiting DC, and the next time we visit we'll definitely return!
It was certainly a very busy evening at this place on a Sunday evening! I had heard and read a lot of good things about the place. The drinks did not disappoint but the food was mostly cold, and average Indian food. The spice level was dialed down but it was definitely good. I will try and visit again on a non-busy day to hopefully experience better food and service.
We went on a impromptu trip to Washington DC. After visiting various attractions all day we searched for some good Indian restaurants and we found Pappe! Every food item on a menu has some kind of twist and fusion but that does not compromise the authentic tastes of Indian food.1) The Chillitini and the old monk cocktail is a must try!2) Pappe has an amazing raw and authentic ambience. We tried tandoori chicken, gobi manchurian, chicken Malabar and biryani. I would rate everything 5/5!!!3) Also, one of my friend follows Jainism (cannot eat root vegetables and some fruits). After giving the chef/manager a list of food items my friend couldn’t eat, the chef quickly made the food without giving a second thought! And this rarely happens with my friends since he cannot eat root vegetables and restaurant managers or chefs always don’t accommodate such requests.4) don’t miss the Rasmalai tres leches and the chai crème brûlée!!!
Was tired after a long day’s stroll around DC and visiting all the historical monuments and government buildings! Craving for Indian food, came across this restaurant. Ordered the Mattar Paneer, Dal Tadka, Malai Kofta and the Garlic Nan. Everything was tasty and adequate in quantity. The spice level was moderate! Overall it was a good experience! Definitely recommend!
We got wrong food, then ordered, but we were fine with it as we(kids) were hungry(and the waitress started to argue). However, the waitress came back and took the food back while we were eating it already and said they decided to replace with the original order.Cooking our original order took too long, and we quit…
