Opened during the pandemic, My Cake Theory is a Black woman-owned bakery in Eastern Market with lots of style and flavor. When you walk in, the friendly staff walk you through the menu. You can buy one of their seasonal cupcakes or create your own. I opted for creating my own. Here's how it works:1) Pick your base. I went with their rich vanilla cupcake.2) Choose a filling. I opted for cream cheese.3) Pick the frosting. Chocolate was where I landed.4) Add toppings. Sprinkles and a little more chocolate syrup for me.The cupcake itself was well baked and so good!
Jesus take the wheel! I had to look through my reviews to make sure I hadn’t written one before. What took me so long! THE ONLY CUPCAKE place you should patron in DC. Period!This photo is me after two big bites (I don’t want my Hubby to ask for any), stopping my eating so I can jump on here real quick! Lord… my waist line wants to forget this place but I can’t.It’s not my first time having one of their cupcakes. The last time was a few months ago and bay-bee.. it’s like fine wine- Definitely has gotten better over time. Not saying the first or second time wasn’t good, but this time stopped me in my tracks.Thank you Sis for following your dreams and blessing us with your delicious ministry! Great store.. well decorated and clean. But no labeled prices (I hate that!) Customer service.. meh. I was new to the store and confused by how everything worked. The girl behind the counter seemed more interested in the conversation with her friend. But… the cakes? Overpriced but ridiculously delicious. The cake part is moist and the frosting is light and airy.It’s a black owned business I’d support and tell others to as well.
The cake flavors are delicious. The icing is thick and very sweet. The filling flavors have an artificial after taste. The price is decent and the presentation of the cupcakes are very eye catching. Overall I would recommend the build your own with half the icing. ?
Filled out an online order for a birthday cake. Instructions state someone will reach out in 36hrs. No one did. I called and was told it was too late to order a cake, and likely when I submitted the form they were already sold out of birthday cakes. Her solution was cupcakes. Um, if I had wanted cupcakes I would have ordered those. I realized this is more of a cucake place not a cake place.The nameless gal was efficient not friendly.Anyway looked like a promising placed based on reviews. I bought a cake elsewhere, and ended up adding cupcakes anyway.
I always say my favorite cake is a cupcake, well I've found my new favorite place to get them from!!! The customer service was great, there were plenty of options, and the best part was supporting a black woman owned business in Capitol Hill area!! They have a customer for life in me
I was visiting from out of town and passed by this shop the day before. I'm so glad I went in because the cupcakes were delicious and the service was wonderful! I'm so glad to be supporting a Black and woman-owned business! Well done, ladies!

I love My Cake Theory so much!! They have the best gluten free cupcakes in the city, and the concept is so unique. It's black- and woman-owned as well. I highly recommend stopping in!
