I was looking for a more adult oriented establishment for brunch. I didn't want to break the bank though either. I also didn't want to be around other family's children - not that I am against families dining out together - it was just not the spirited type of environment we were looking for on this occasion. We got our break from kids for a few hours with a peaceful ambience - quality food at reasonable prices. It was the sophisticated break we needed.

Have enjoyed Fritz’s food since he opened his first cafe in the late 70’s in Potomac, and am never disappointed. Last evening’s soft shell crab on corn medley was the absolute best of the season and which I always order when available. Delicious, perfectly cooked and presented, and the service was perfect. There was a beautiful array of choices on the menu, and particularly the specials of the day, which do not appear on the regular menu on the internet. The service was excellent on all levels, although the tuna was undercooked for one person's taste, and she sent it back to be more cooked, and it reappeared virtually the same. The front room was a bit noisy, as they had packed the tables in, but overall it did not detract from a great evening, and the lighting was perfect. I have been coming here since they opened, but usually for lunch. Definitely an evening place as well.

Very nice dining experience but very expensive.

I have loved Matisse for a long time, but recently it has gotten even better! Wonderful!!! Tonight we went following a movie, and 3 tables were taken by friends, so I am not alone in my opinion. An additional perk was a charming young Frenchman named Brian who took superb care of us…. I shall return and ask to have Brian as my server. Well done, Brian, and thank you!👍🏻

Everything from the decor to the food to the service was impeccable.

Great restaurant, great meal every time! Always consistently excellent.

We once again had a pleasant experience. Our guests really enjoyed the meal and the service.

It seems to me that Matisse's food improved during the pandemic and has continued to be excellent. The octopus appetizer is fantastic, the fried oysters are everything you want them to be and not the heavily battered things one often finds, and the beet salad a beauty. Service is always perfect.

The server was well meaning and helpful but didn't understand how to work with the flow of the guests.... tended to rush things a bit.
