I had a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. The food was good (plenty of bacon on the sandwich) and reasonably priced, but that’s about the only positive feedback I have. The experience of going here was stressful to me. As soon as I walked in (voluntarily wearing a mask, so I was clearly Covid-conscious) and indicated a party of 1, someone gestured for me to sit down at the (dirty) counter where others were sitting as well. I looked around and there were plenty of tables that no one was sitting in, but I guess because I was alone I had to sit there. With Covid situation, I was uncomfortable at the counter near other people. It had also clearly not been cleaned, so I never used the napkin that they set down for me on the dirty counter. The employees were sitting or standing around doing nothing despite lots of dirty tables around. It would be easier to social distance if they had all the tables ready for use and allowed single people to sit at them. Not to mention it just gives a bad vibe having lots of tables with dirty dishes around. It was also stressful being at the counter facing all the employees who were sitting or standing around; I have some social anxiety especially when eating, and it was not the relaxing meal that I wanted. I ate my food as quickly as I could to get out of there (they did not seem to have a takeout option, which would have been preferable). They also do not serve tap water — supposedly because of Covid, but that makes no sense since they serve coffee from mugs. Needless to say, I will not be returning.
Casual place with good sausage, home fries, bacon and eggs. This is a diner. Don’t expect high end food. Waffles were good, the service was friendly and the price was right. This is a good choice in an expensive area of D.C. and was full of a mix of tourists and regulars. A line formed outside, but it moved quickly and the food was hot, fresh and quickly served. This was a good choice for a quick, inexpensive breakfast.
Some of the best breakfast food i have tasted. Service is good and the food qaulity is great. Staff is upbeat and friendly. I had the blueberry pancakes with grits eggs and corn beef hash. The blueberries were so fresh and the egas were so pight and fluffy. The food is delicious. Im writing this review while im sitting here eating. Had too.. it's just that good
I can't believe this place has 4.3 star, I guess it's because of their efficiency that's the only thing admirable about this place. I got a waffle two scrambled eggs and turkey. There was corn beef hash in my eggs eww. The waffle was okay. Turkey bacon wasn't edible. I guess this is a tourist attraction this was my first and last time eating here. Not worth the wait or poor dining experience.
Food and service was awesome! Had the waffle with a couple of eggs and home fries. Everything was cooked to perfection. Coffee was delicious!
Their service is awesome..friendly staff who treat one as family
Omg an amazing "hole in the wall" eatery. servixe was prompt. Food was great. the waffles and chicken, off the hook.
Diner style service counter with some tables and booths spread around. Seating was efficient and quick. Wife had a waffle and bacon. Bacon was good, waffle was so tough I had to hold the plate so she could cut it, seriously. I had the chicken fried steak, eggs and potatoes, one of their “signature” dishes. Eggs were perfectly done, potatoes were a home made larger shred version, nicely done. Steak was the kind you pull out of the freezer and drop in the fryer, about what I expected. The “gravy” came on the side and was disappointing to say the least. It had the consistency of water and was kind of nasty. So it was ok for a quick meal on our walk towards downtown, but I wouldn’t go back. If you have “waffle” in the name of your eatery, your waffles should be spot on, sadly this one failed.
I will always love this place. It brings back childhood memories of my grandpa's restaurant. The old man who runs this place is grumpy but well meaning. People who get upset because you can't read a sign and wait patiently, be prepared you will be told to close the door! The food is unpretentious, delicious and simple. There isn't any other place that you can get food like this in a mile radius. History is this place and the food is timeless.
What a great find in downtown DC. The wait was about 15 minutes but well worth it. The host was such a character and kept us entertained. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious. I had a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on a bagel. My wife had a waffle and sausage side. Coffee was brewed fresh. Warning — on the day we were there, 3/26/22, their credit card machine was out of order and they were only accepting cash. The ATM around the corner was broken also! Plan on $15 per person unless you’re really hungry.
