The old lady running the shop is as sweet as her ice cream. I walked and asked her for her famous “Jack Daniel’s” Ice-cream but unfortunately she didn’t have any. She told me “I’ll make it next week for you”, made my week. <3Also, you can’t go wrong with any flavors there, must go in DuPont if you’re craving ice-cream :)
I agree with a lot of the other reviews that mention Larry’s demeanor toward his patrons is horrendous. I’ve never been so uncomfortable in an ice cream shop before. Usually, the people working in an ice cream place are friendliest! But not Larry nor the other guy that was working there.As customary in an ice cream shop, I asked if I could try a sample and I was met with an extremely rude way of saying we can’t because of covid. Now, covid is a fair reason to not want to give samples, however, the week before I was with my friend when he got Dolcezza Gelato and they had no problem giving him a sample. If Larry’s decision was a personal one, then they should have at least had a sign saying “sorry, no samples” and it wouldn’t have been a problem. But instead I was made to feel dumb for asking that question. I would have been okay with his response if he had at least said “No, sorry we can’t….”You’re better off going to Jenni’s or Ice cream Jubilee, not only will you get better service, but you’ll get better ice cream.
Was not impressed. Larry's was recommended, but found the older guy (presumably the owner) to be a bit crass and too familiar with foul language. Moreover, you have allllll these delicious sounding flavors, but cannot taste any of them before paying $5.91 for one scoop + 1.99 for a waffle cone + 10% tax (times 2) + milkshakes $9.10 + tax (times 2)... for $37. PLEASE Stop citing COVID as the reason that you cannot give samples (even Rita's give samples now, along with other creameries), when you are not even wearing masks and no visible COVID protocols in place...just sounds like a cost saving measure that is not being passed on to the customers.
Larry’s is awesome! Wonderfully homemade ice cream without so many of the additional ingredients/preservatives/emulsifiers that big companies use. Not to mention Larry himself was there! He’s a gentleman and made my boyfriend I feel welcome and made us laugh. Great atmosphere and ice cream here.

Larry is a just man who has been put on this Earth to do one thing, serve delicious ice cream. His loving but firm attitude is purely for efficiency. If you have had a bad experience at this place it is purely because you didn’t live up to Larry’s standards. The ice cream is top notch in DC and I can easily say I will be going again.
Just wrapping up our trip in DC and stopped by for ice cream. Excellent selection and so tasty! Larry kept us entertained too. Funny guy!
Best ice cream. It has that homemade creamy flavor. The strawberry cheesecake flavor is amazing. My son says it is the best vanilla he has ever had. And Larry is a funny guy too.
They had a bunch of flavors, but the scoops were quite expensive and the ice cream wasn't particularly good.
This place truly is a hidden gem! The ice cream was delicious and not too sugary, prices were reasonable for the part of town (near Dupont Circle).But the best part is the owner Larry! He has a sarcastic sense of humor and had us laughing the entire time. I think some people mistake his humor for rudeness, but we loved it.
