I was in the area celebrating my birthday. We decided to get lunch and ended up at the Laredo's. Oh my goodness let me just tell you how every single thing I ate and drank was excellent! My sangria was delicious, as well as the complimentary chips and salsa. Our appetizers were this amazing lentil soup with zucchini and a sauteed shrimp in garlic butter dish with toasted bread... SMH The soup was vegetarian friendly and I could eat it weekly lol It was so good and so refreshing to my palate!! Our entrees were Mexican shrimp fried rice and a shrimp quesadilla. Both equally delicious! To my surprise after 30 years of saying I don't like sour cream I finally tasted sour cream that was absolutely extraordinary I had no idea sour cream was supposed to be flavorful because it's always just tasted like cold nothing to me but I did not leave any of it on the plate lol! Finally, because it was my birthday there was a complimentary flan dessert brought out to us, again after 30 years of saying I don't like flan ... here we are devouring it! It was so so good! It tasted nothing like the flan we had in 10th grade Spanish class lol The service was excellent timely and accommodating please get there as soon as you can 10 out of 10 rating You will not be sorry because they will not disappoint!
I had a skinny margarita and it was PHENOMENAL.For dinner I chose to have a chicken and steak fajitas and I enjoyed the steak more. But everything was exceptional. The music sets the scene. This was a wonderful place to dine and our server was fantastic!
I had a fantastic experience at Larendo. I went as part of DC Veg Restaurant Week and was very impressed with the vegan options. They even had a special menu for the week.We sat outside on the patio, which was charmingly decorated. Our food took a while to come out, so they offered complimentary drinks. The person I was dining with and I weren't complaining or anything; Laredo's staff went out of their way to make sure we were having a good experience.Juan was our server and he was terrific. He was both professional and personable. You can really tell when someone puts effort in to make sure you have a pleasant meal. I will definitely go back to Laredo, and I hope Juan is on shift when I go!
DO NOT EAT HERE! I found a bunch of black hair in my food. Sadly, I encountered the same behavior other customers experienced in this place. The servers were rude. When we told one of the serves that we wanted to sit outside, in one of the two empty tables they had available in their front patio, she didn't allow us to seat there and she took us to a table located in a balcony where four people wouldn’t fit. Then the manager came and I explained him that we couldn't fit there. I told him that we were waiting for other two people and wanted to sit at the empty tables in front. Instead of helping us, he kept saying that we should stayed in that tiny place. We finally sat at one of the tables outside as requested, but when we ordered our food, the worst happened. First, he gave me the wrong order; at that point, I didn’t want to make any problem, and I told him that I got the wrong order but I wanted to keep the order anyway. Then, when I opened my burrito, I saw a bunch of short black hair in it. It was disgusting!!!! I asked them to get me another plate, and he got it, but at that point, I was so disappointed. I decided to stay because we were meeting good friends there. I didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable, but I was very unhappy with the service. Then got the check they had already added 20% for their tip. I wouldn't have minded but the service was terrible. Don’t come here. There is another excellent Mexican place three blocks away, called Taco City DC III. It is better, the food is tasty and cheaper, and they know the meaning of customer service.
The food and drinks were good, nothing to say here. Their fajitas are delightful and the margaritas tasty. However, the service we received on our most recent (and most likely last) visit was unacceptable. Our waiter brought food and drinks when required, that wasn't the issue. It was the disturbing and frankly disrespectful way in which he interacted with us that makes me give such a long and low review, something I do not do lightly. We had been to the restaurant once before, and already his behavior had been less than professional. We wrote it off then, chalking it up to a rough-around-the-edges waiter having a go at his clients. No big deal, especially since another staff member was surreptitiously reassigned to our table. He was both supremely curteous and highly professional, just like all other staff members we have interacted with. This time around we chose to bring a few friends to celebrate a new job. We were again assigned the same waiter. Immediately, he recognized us, and again singled out my partner for what at first seemed like casual banter. Nevertheless, he did not stop there. I'm not sure if he felt comfortable with us because we spoke to him in Spanish, but he belittled her, accusing her of being a drunk, which was not the case. At no point during that dinner were any of us exhibiting any drunken or intoxicated behavior. We were never asked to leave by any other staff member or manager. Quite the contrary, we may have stayed too long.Since we were with friends, we again tried laughing it off, but still the comments continued. When we asked for a final round of drinks, he again directed his attention towards my partner, again bringing up her supposed inebriated state. He was behaving in such a familiar and persistent that my partner politely asked him to tone it down and to keep things civil. His reply was both unprofessional and unexpected. Instead of apologizing to the customer, he doubled-down, complaining that we were accusing him of bullying (which in our opinion was in fact an accurate description of his behavior). Nevertheless, not wanting to create or attract undue attention, we refrained from pressing the matter much further. Frankly, I thought things would end there.I'm not sure why he did this, but he then asked each of us for our names. Uneasy, we nevertheless gave them in order, until now he landed on one of our female friends. As a reminder, only two of us spoke Spanish (my partner and I). When he heard her name, he burst out laughing. He then used a derogatory and sexist version of her name, all while laughing at her. She, of course, did not fully understand, although by then we all sensed there was tension in the air. Suffice to say we quickly asked for the check after that and gladly left the restaurant.Laredo is our local cantina, and is supposed to be a place to share and enjoy with family and friends. I do not want to diminish the entire place, which is, beyond our unfortunate incident, a great place to eat out. Nevertheless, this kind of unprofessional, rude, and frankly sexist behavior from one staff member has tarnished our view of the establishment. Is it because we spoke Spanish and my partner is a woman that he allowed himself to act in such a disrespectful way ? Were we being punished for being overly polite and not wanting to cause a scene ? Who knows. Sadly enough, we will likely not be coming back.
Wow we stopped here w the kids on Sunday after living nearby for years - and it was awesome. Our daughter says she wants to eat there every day. Wonderful plant-based options like the fajitas too and everyone super nice, great decor!
Food was good, but very overpriced. Server was kind and atmosphere is eclectic. Heads up: 20% gratuity will automatically be added to any order of $50 or more. We typically leave 20% but it was irritating to have it added without our knowledge. For our family of 4 it cost us $150. Seems a bit excessive for what could be described as upscale taco bell.
Such a great experience! Really friendly staff and great food and cocktails!
On first impression, and second, and further inspection...this place could have been airlifted from the depths of some deep Mexican city and dropped here. The motif, the structural details...everything seemed totally out of place for D.C. and totally suited for old Mexico. Even the wiring appeared to meet 'old Mexico' code rather than D.C. specs. And the bathroom 'fit the mold.' It looked and felt ORIGINAL. The food was also very 'Mexican' to us, not 'Americanized' like most 'mexican restaurants.' Having said that, it was good - not outstanding. The service was good - we were there during a really quiet time, with only us and maybe one other customer in the whole place.
Just went there with family so far one of the best Mexican restaurants I've had in a long time. Wish there was one back at home . The kids love the food the family wants to go back before we leave to Fl
