My friends and I visited this place recently. We ordered momos, platter, Chapli kabobs, chicken kabobs, dal and some drinks. Chapli kabobs by far were the best. The place was a bit over priced but the quality of food was too good and even the services. I would definitely recommend this place to at least visit once just to taste the authentic afghani food.
Hands down the best food I had during my DC trip. The service was good but a bit slower. I don't think they were expecting as many people as they had for a Monday lunch. However, the food made up for any wait and the staff was helpful and friendly.
Lapis opened my palate to Afghan food. Who knew the best dumplings in DC would come from the Middle East! I recommend ordering a few options so you can get a taste of the full menu. The highlight of my meal besides the dumpling (shrimp and beef) was the lamb shank. The meat was juicy and paired well with the basmati rice. Not picture was a selection of desserts. The vanilla ice cream and almond cake is an iconic duo everyone must try!
Delightful experience. From the ambience to the waitstaff to the food - everything was exceptional. We tasted so many flavors and dish types and everything was astounding. Food was presented beautifully and was hot through the last bite - we especially enjoyed the murgh korma and the vegetarian rice pilaf type dish, shrimp dumplings, and (pictured) the afghan bread with pumpkin and afghan bread with potato and onion. Sauces were delicious as well. We did not get drinks so ended up paying a total of about $40/person including tax and tip. Overall a stellar restaurant experience and we did have high hopes going in! We are looking forward to dining again at Lapis - a great place for a date night or a special occasion.
LOVED the decor and ambiance - and the food/drinks were spectacular, we would have ordered more but just couldn't keep consuming! The spacing and vibes are relaxed but unique for DC. Drinks were tasty and novel - do try the Kabul Shandy (pictured)! We tried a few apps - the dumplings are unique - and their great, but we were blown away by the Lamb Shank, among the top few I ever had - the sauce is to die for. The great ingredients and slow/traditional cooking really shines and comes through at Lapis. Definitely worth a visit, we'll be back for sure!ig: @harshaeats
Nice inside, lots of seating, outdoor seating for when its nice out, takes reservations and service was good. I wish we got more water for the table, it was never refilled. But the food was good. We also had the dumplings but ate them before I got a picture. Images are of steak kebab, pumpkin bolani, and the rice pudding which was on the house for International Womens Day.
Great ambience, dishes all flavorful and beautifully plated, cool interior. This is a good date spot or place to bring your parents when they’re in town!
Loved the ambiance of this restaurant. The brunch options were decent. The pancakes with rose and pistachios were BEAUTIFUL to look at, but kind of dry and the garnish was inedible. Great selection of lattes!
Stopped here on a whim. Had no idea what it was. Never had Afghan food before. It was FANTASTIC! Our server was above and beyond helpful, courteous and explained the menu to us. Made excellent recommendations
We went there to have lunch on a weekday earlier this month. We were the only customers in the room. Apart from the service that was OK, the rest does not make the bar. We were not very hungry and ordered a few starters to share. They came with no flat bread so we had to order nans that were cut in small pieces. The music was loud playing Latino tunes... We asked for a jug of water, it wasn't cold, right off the tap. And there is mandatory 20% charge for the tip on the bill! For what? What kind of business is this?
