Had an incredible meal two weeks ago at this Puerto Rican joint located in the upscale area of Navy Yard in DC.Prices are all relative to location (DC) and I completely understand why each of these dishes were couple of dollars more than what people would expect, but everything was absolutely delicious!I ordered the Pineapple Sazerac, Ensalada de Mariscos, and the Chillo Frito (Whole Fried Red Snapper). When I visited San Juan a couple of years ago, Chillo Frito was easily my favorite dish and i'm glad I was able to get that dish again! The Pineapple Sazerac packed a punch and the drink was infused with pineapple in three different ways, which I loved! There was a Puerto Rican pineapple rum, a pineapple infused sugar rim, and candied pineapple - all which balanced out the smokiness/spiciness of the Rye whiskey perfectly. The ensalada de mariscos was very fresh and bright, and included octopus, shrimp, and scallops. It had cherry tomatoes, green olives, cilantro, small diced onion and sat in some sort of citrus marinade. Put it on top of the crispy, rich deep fried tostones that came with the dish for the perfect bite!.The Red Snapper was the highlight of the meal! If you're not afraid to dive in hands first, and understand and appreciate the size of the dish [easily enough for 2 people....or one Amrith ;) ] then the $38 price tag for it means nothing - trust me, its definitely worth it. The fish came topped with pickled red onions & cilantro and came with a spicy cabbage slaw that was tangy, acidic, and packed good heat. Those things paired perfectly with the deep fried fish and was a truly amazing dish!I have the mofongo in my crosshairs for when I make it back to Navy Yard down the road :)

Delicious food,fast service

Great food, music, fast service.

Amazing! We almost walked past but just had the most delicious birthday lunch. The Shrimp Mofongo was seasoned perfectly. It was a healthy portion. The Canoa de Platano was so good! And we finished with the Coquito Bread Pudding delivered at the perfect time by the gracious owner himself; it was divine! So creamy, perfect amount of coquito and the toasted coconut was delish! The service was great (even though you scan the menu and pay online. Due to ‘rona this is super common and we didn’t mind at all) and servers and the owner checked on us several times. The decor was lively and colorful. Super clean and we felt safe and distanced. We WILL be back and are telling our friends now.

There is more than one reason why La Famosa could fall short of a 5 star rating, yet the overall feeling when you leave this place is so good you just can't help give it its due. What inspires that overall feeling are unique flavors (tamarind or soursop fruit shakes anyone?), unique presentations (not every day do you eat out of what is essentially a wooden bucket), and a setting that is both laid back and energetic/fun (try to get one of the swinging bench seats near the front window).Where La Famosa could use some improvement (and I only say this because I want them to move from "pretty good" to "great") is the price points (the aforementioned fruit shakes are way way too small to cost $7 each - I had to buy 2 to feel satisfied) and the flavors of the mains (the mofongo - mashed plantains topped with pork belly - for some reason lacks any measure of sauce and/or spice which leaves you having to push yourself to finish what ends up being a lot of somewhat bland mash).Again, I'm still giving La Famosa a 5 because of what it offers and what it does well, though if the prices go any higher, it just won't be worth it anymore, and I'd hate to see that happen because this place has enough potential to be a D.C. mainstay.

The food was delish!!! The mofongo was not dry! The cod and maduros was amazing! And the tres leche was to die for! However, the server working the bakery could use some help in customer service & service with a smile.

My coworkers and I went here on a lazy Friday afternoon. Location is great and the service was good too. This is the type of restaurant that allows you to order and pay from your phone. The pork belly mofongo was absolutely delicious. I wish the beer wasn't so expensive but that's what you get in Navy Yard. I would definitely recommend and come back again.

La Famosa was sooo DELICIOUS ?. We did a random Google search for a good Puerto Rican restaurant since the first Puerto Restaurant we TRIED to eat at refused to seat us. We decided to sit at the bar and the service was very good. All of the food and drink suggestions that the bartender gave us were sooo good. We can't wait to come back again.

Splurged recently on lunch. Ordered take out and I picked up. The app's timing was accurate for pickup! Ordered pastelillos, the tripleta and flan. All were amazing. The pastelillos was juicy and crispy. The tripleta flavorful and flan was delicious. It was pricy for lunch but hey, it's not everyday and I'm happy to support local restaurants and the staff!

just visited this restaurant and was very please with the food an service. Is authentic puertorirican cuisine but even better IMO and everyone was very nice. 10/10 would recommend. The staff went above and beyond replacing and refunding whatever they didn't have after we order.
