Pretty good. Not many bbq places downtown and this was nice for a quick meal. Loved the sides - baked beans and mac - and the moist brisket was good. The jalapeño sausage and chicken were just ok, nothing special. I’d come back to try other meats. I’d say this is not quite as good as Rudy’s (if you’ve lived in Texas)

The food was good. Since it is set up cafeteria style, I would have rather gotten my own drink as well. It was a hot summer day and I didn't even get a refill. The server came over once to get my drink order and again to give me the bill.

The chopped brisket and Mac and cheese was amazing. You can expect a Texas BBQ vibe here with many options for drinks. I’d want to come back and try their ribs as well as other food items.

Noisy with no frills, this restaurant has a vwide ariety of BBQ meats and entrees which are sold by weight. So you can get one rib or two small slices of pork belly, etc. There is also a variety of sides, but they all come in one size. Liked the rainbow cole slaw which was not immersed in mayonnaise or vinegar, but a nice blend of both that was not heavy or too tangy. Both the collard greens and baked beans had plenty of pork in them which added flavor. There are also "homemade" sausages which you can get pieces of and a full service bar. There are rows of long tables that are used for communal seating, but there are some tables that seat 2 or 4 people. There is also a nice bar in front. Everything was flavorful and the fact that I could order 1 rib and 3 slices of pork belly permitted me to try a number of things on my plate. I will definitely go back.

Great Texas BBQ in the heart of DC. The service here is topnotch. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table right away. We were also asked if we had dined at Hill Country before and when we said we had not, the hostess politely informed us of how the ordering process works, which was really helpful. The staff preparing the meat were friendly and engaged us in conversation while they prepared our plates. There are several types of meat to choose from....brisket, sausage, chicken, etc. All were really good. The chicken was more moist than almost any other bbq place I have visited in DC and Texas. They have every side you can think of as well. I highly recommend the bourbon mashed sweet potato, chili, and deviled eggs. The cornbread is pretty good too....honey butter is delish. They offer margarita pitchers, which are really good, just be sure to sit in the bar area if you want to take advantage of the happy hour specials. They also have another large dance club space in the basement, where it looks like they have live bands. Overall, we had a great time and would comeback. Thanks!

Great brisket sandwich. Cafeteria style ordering for food, then server bring food & takes drink order. Sandwich was big & delicious. Chili was great also

We were seated by a friendly young man. That was the best part of our visit. Our waitress was curt from the very beginning, not explaining anything. We were a party of 6. We ordered 1 beer and 1 sangria. She came back with the beer and stated they were out of sangria. We then ordered iced tea and 3 glasses of water. After she returned with the tea, that was the last we heard/saw her. We observed how other people were going to the counter to order, that's how we knew what was expected of the customer. The food was OK. I ordered the pulled pork and had to add bbq sauce to provide any flavor. The waitress did not return to ask about the food or to refill any drinks. We had to get the manager involved even to get the check so we could leave the restaurant. If I ever go the Wash. DC again, this restaurant will not be on my list to visit.

We went here based on TA reviews, and we were not disappointed. Everyone was very friendly and the food was good and reasonably priced. We went at 5 pm on a Sunday, and there were tons of empty tables. So you don't have to ask as many questions as we did, when you enter, you go straight to the very back under the sign that says "Order here". First you order and receive your meat; then you go to a different counter to order and receive your sides. Then you get a number and take your meat and sides to a table of your choice. Then someone brings you water and silverware; then someone else takes your drink order. Our server was initially very attentive, and then disappeared; eventually a different server noticed we were just waiting and got our serve to bring us our bill. Would recommend.

After a full day of visiting museums, we were tired and hungry! And since our car was already safely parked in a downtown garage, we decided to eat in the city. Came across this BBQ place and decided to try it. Without reservations, we were directed to the bar or the high-top tables along the front windows. So high-top table it was!! This Texas BBQ joint operates cafeteria style, so no table service here. Picked up our beers at the bar. He had a Shiner Bock; I enjoyed a Founders All Day IPA. Food orders are placed at the counter near the kitchen. The Brisket sandwiches were smoky and juicy and tasty!! Each table has a selection of BBQ sauces. We both found one that tickled our palates! One side comes with the sandwich; we got mac & cheese and baked beans. Plus a cold cucumber salad. All totally delicious!! Our only complaint was the slow bar service (but we know that many establishments are dealing with staff shortages).

Food was spectacular.
