I ordered smothered chicken the chicken smelled like old grease and taste like it was cooked 4 days ago my Mac and cheese was watery with no taste and my sweet potato pie look like it was a week old the crust was hard and greasy and the topping was greasy and old tasting horrible a complete waist of money all went in the trash because they didn’t answer the phone when I tried calling

Found this place through a search for soul food. I went with three friends hoping to have a nice, sit-down lunch, but we were disappointed to find this is a takeout shop. The cashier, however, immediately spotted our predicament and had someone from the kitchen take 4 chairs and two tables outside so that we could enjoy a sit-down outdoor meal. We ordered the steak sub, the 8-piece fried chicken box, the BBQ ribs, and the sliced turkey with a side of collard greens and mac and cheese. We also ordered 3 peach cobblers and 1 sweet potato pie. Total bill around $70.The food in general was very good, and the portions were enormous. Only issues were the collard greens and mac and cheese were pretty salty, although my friend liked the salt in the collard greens. The mac and cheese was also a little dry and crumbly, and I like mine dripping with cheese. Peach cobbler was outstanding, as was the sweet potato pie.

The black lady with the ? that was taking orders was so disrespectful, unprofessional, rude to the customers. The lady was throwing Tarter sauce on the counter when we was standing there. The food was okay but it was better when Mrs. Debra was cooking it.

Excellent food gonna make a trip back to. DC just for the food. Try it sweet potato pie Excellent bit sweet but good meatloaf awesome

I'm a pig Feet Turkey Wing Fried Fish Guy but the key is the sides and they're simply not playing! The desserts are banging Bana pudding to Sweet Potato Pie. The Cabbage and the Collards are not to be messed with period Love this spot!

The pies are excellent and reminscent of the taste and quality of a real Soul food sweet potato pie in a bygone era. As a native Washingtonian I like that Henry's has longevity which is very rare for a restaurant in a transient city like DC. However their customer service is horrible. I ordered a pie on GrubHub. It was delivered damaged. There were pie smudges all over the box and inside the tied up bag. When I spoke to managers at both locations. They had very little empathy for my situation and offered no workable solutions. It was disheartening to say the least. Although my walk-in experience was good in the prior to the pandemic, I don't know if I can find it in my heart to ever buy from them again; they were so unprofessional.

I am a southern gal with both parents from the deep south. I did not expect much because so far food has been poor in DC. The food was not from scratch which is the only reason I would pay 17 dollars for slave food. It takes time to cook the dishes. Well whiting was flavorless no sesoning in the batter and the macaroni was definately box and the yams were out the can. The cashier was rude and only reccommend for locals.

I had high hopes for this place. I’m from the south so I know good southern soul food. To be honest- I usually eat healthy. Not a lot of sugar or salt in my everyday eating. EVERYTHING I had was too salty. I don’t know if it was an accident or what but my mac and cheese was too salty the greens were too salty the catfish was ok. I tried the sweet potato pie and it was too spicy. Not hot spicy but too much of the all spice taste. I won’t run back to eat here.. but maybe I should give it another try. Maybe it was a bad day.
