Super helpful staff, provided great recommendations. Got family dinner for four for $99. In retrospect, should have just ordered individual meals, Son lives nearby so he kept leftovers at least, Brisket, ribs and turkey were the favorites. Would recommend - just watch pricing and compare for what each person in your party wants and will eat.
I regret having to be the oddball out but our experience at this BBQ staple was less than stellar. We showed up and the guys were all standing talking and laughing and we’re waiting for an in to place our order. When the guy looks to us there’s no greeting simply a stare and “yeah?” we place our order and my husband asks if we grab our own drinks from the beverage cooler. Said guy is already turned around, no eye contact or verbal confirmation only a halfway nod.We go find a place to sit and every empty table was dirty. BBQ stains and crumbs all over. Since COVID I now carry to-go Clorox wipes in my purse and wiped a table down myself. My husbands name gets called - he gets up and meets the same guy halfway and before my husband has grabbed the tray this dude is already turning away. Nothing about “anything else I can get for you?” We sit down and see there’s no utensils or napkins so my husband goes and gets everything including BBQ sauce which we had no been offered or even told about. When we’re halfway through our meal another guy comes out and is talking to all the tables asking if everything has been alright; he gets to us and says “y’all didn’t get any boats?” To which we shook our head, this man apologizes and says we should’ve gotten paper boats with our meal and brings us the Oreo puddings. Pudding was nice and cold; perfect for a hot day. We thanked him and that was it.The food was good but the poor customer service overshadowed the food experience; it could really be improved if the employees had just a little politeness.
Excellent BBQ, Friendly, laid back staff. Some great sides made for an excellent meal. Not a lot of options for kids. My daughter found the Mac and Cheese too spicy.
I did not love the brisket (I don’t eat beef), but the pork belly and pork rib tips are amazing, especially when covered in their house bbq sauce. Also the turkey is not dry at all ?. Best part is the service here — just as good as the food (maybe better). Leave a fat tip for that fat rib!
Food was quite good, especially the brisket.
A little chaotic, but that’s BBQ, baby!As a onetime Texan, I can truly say this joint knows how to smoke some meats! What really rocked my world: brisket burnt ends and all the sauces they provided.Maybe the best thing I ate while in DC for a week.
This place makes you feel like you're in a BBQ shack in three middle of the city. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It was very good and loaded with meat. So much that it was falling out of the bun. The Carolina sauce is very good. The chipotle green beans are good and spicy. Very cool relaxed atmosphere. Very good service. Every few minutes one of the employees came out to see how everyone was doing.
I tried their Carolina sandwich and the Pork ribs and both were delicious. Their sides are disappointing. I've had the Mac & Cheese and won't get again then tried the BBQ beans and they were too spicy for me. I referred a friend and he had the green beans and said that they had no flavor. There isn't a conspicuous sign out front that says Federalist Pig so you may walk or drive right past it. There's a neon sign that has an outline of a pig with BBQ inside the pig outline. There's no indoor seating but tables are outside and it's located in the Adams Morgan neighborhood about two blocks off of 16th St. NW; probably a 10 minute walk from the Columbia Heights Metro station.
Federalist Pig, a "hole in the wall" kind of a place is definitely a great option for a fantastic BBQ. We were impressed specially by the superb brisket we got. The FEED THE FAM combo with 4 meats of your choice and 4 large sides was an excellent choice. Even for 4 adults the plate FEED THE FAM had plenty of food for all. The chicken wings were a little dry but tasted great. There was only outside sitting and the cleanliness of the tables could have been better. Food 5 stars, cleanliness and sitting 4 stars. If you are a BBQ lover this "hole in the wall" is definitely a great choice in DC.
I've always passed by their DC location and finally stopped by their MD one. My friends and I ordered the pork ribs, pork belly, brisket burnt ends, moist sliced brisket, pork sausage, brussels sprouts, and the mac and cheese. Wow everything here was delicious. We loved the burnet ends, pork belly and moist sliced brisket. Meats were so tender, juicy and fall off the bone. Definitely order the sprouts and mac and cheese. The sauces were no joke either. The Carolina, mustard bbq and mild sauces were delicious. I'd recommend ordering earlier in the day as they do sell out items. Also bring your own utensils or wet wipes as the food can get messy. Service here was great. Even though it's more self serve. Order, grab your food and eat on the benches. The workers kept asking if we needed anything and even gave us extra pickles. Great location to order some BBQ. Parking can be limited, but theres plenty of side street parking across the street.
