Very cool place to sit and catch up with friends or sit and do some work on your computer. You can tell this is a locals place and the workers are all very kind. You get the best bang for your buck if you eat in, though. There isn’t too much gluten free friendly food on the menu but it’s right next to DuPont circle which is full of good options.

Quiet spacious cafe that opens early. Came in on a weekday afternoon. Great friendly staff. Wifi available. Couches and bar counter at the back. Coffee is worth it.

I love the vibe, the location, the avocado toast, the coffee and pastries of Emissary, but there are a few recurring issues that I hope they address:Some of the staff are very ignorant. You need to ask for one thing several times for them to address. The tables are not always being cleaned after someone leaves. People constantly come and go and sometimes you just get to sit at the dirty table and even when you ask for a napkin to clean the table, the person doesn’t come back. The WiFi also sucks. If you need to do stuff online, you can’t rely on their WiFi.

Great relaxed place for a Sunday morning

I’ve been here several times and had pretty mixed experiences. The staff is super kind and lovely. If you’re there to work, there’s very limited seating with plug access for charging devices. In ~5 visits, I’ve never been able to get on the wifi (even with restarting devices/the wifi itself etc.) The coffee is really good, but other aspects could use some improvement; I ordered a salad (~$15!) expecting it to be pretty substantial at that price. Was disappointed when it came with only a few pieces of grapefruit, half an avocado, and stemmy greens. Overall: go for good coffee, pre-charge your devices, consider not ordering salad.

Hip vibe at this neighborhood coffee. Cool interior but lots of space outside. Delicious food and coffee, too. Thumbs up!

Amazing avocado egg burrito, and tasty coffee. Lots of gluten free options, and milk alternatives. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Quality coffee and tea, awesome ambiance, and great service. It's a great place to grab a quick cup of coffee or split a nice bottle of wine and relax. Also, this place is open much later than most coffee shops these days which is a plus.

Emissary is a terrific little morning spot or great place for a coffee anytime. Excellent breakfast sandwiches and beverages. Friendly staff and a comfortable space.

If you can find a table on the weekends, it's hard to imagine a better brunch spot. Great food with creative vegetarian options, excellent coffee (counter culture) and cute English basement spot. A familiar favorite that is always a good option
