We found the food and atmosphere to be perfect for a pre-theater meal!
Elephant and Castle is a delightful slice of London in the heart of D.C. We ate there before a show at the National Theater. The food is authentically British, so youâll love it or not depending on your preferences. The service was good overall - a little slow clearing between courses, but otherwise fine. The bar and patio are energetically loud. If that invigorates you, enjoy! If not, the tables upstairs are quieter. Allow enough time if youâre going on for theatre. We allowed two hours, and that was about right to give us time to walk to the National and get through security. Weâll definitely go back.
We ordered a bunch of starters - basically upscale bar food but quite tasty and reasonably priced considering the location ( blocks from the White House ). Cocktails were great, also reasonable ($11 is a steal for non- happy hour DC)
Getting seated and served was very hectic and stressful. However, once we got a server to take our order it was fantastic. The flight of pot pies was delicious but could have been better in ceramic ramekins (they were in aluminum tins). Overall a very good experienceâ¦after a rough start.
Solid spot near Federal Triangle. Happy Hour specials are pretty basic, but solid.
Nice environment. Wait staff nice. Overall food was average Home made chips were tasty
We had reservations in time to catch a show at 730. It took about ten minutes time for our server to greet us and get our orders. We ordered everything at that time and it took almost 20 minutes from ordering for our appetizers to arrive. We never received utensils or napkins and once our entrees arrived we only had less than ten minutes to eat before having to leave to make our show and still no utensils. I can understand being busy or short staffed but this was completely unsatisfactory. 65 minutes should have been enough time to enjoy a family meal but it turned out to be completely rushed and not a good experience at all.
Asked for restaurant. Seated in bar. Floor dirty, table sticky. I had to wash myself. Restaurant empty. Very slow service. Would not recommend
They seemed very understaffed. There were missing elements of the menu - so surprises with the food that some of our folks would not eat. Our starter came out after our entrees. The food was tasty and I would give it another shot. Bloody Mary was great!
Our waiter was wonderful and funny. The food was great.
