Compass Coffee is a local gem. The consistency and high quality of their beans and roasts is fantastic, and their cans of whole beans are specially packed to stay fresh at home for a long time. Not too oily, so they work well in automatic espresso machines (including the medium roasts, which we prefer). Their Cardinal blend is an excellent "house" coffee to brew daily, but I like the others as well. If I could give them a sixth star for their friendly and professional service and consistent operational excellence, I would.

I went for a coffee as this place is very close to a convention center and in fact the hotel I am staying at. Got dripped coffee (well unfortunately they were running out of nitro cold brew which was my first choice). I was surprised when about 10 min later the barista came and offered to me and other guests a complimentary lemon Bundt cake. Both coffee and cake were very good. Service was prompt and friendly.

I really enjoyed my coffees and croissant. But most of all I enjoyed watching the baristas as they greeted everyone with a smile. It made my day watching them work and laugh together.

A must see in the Shaw area! Adorable little coffee shop with the sweetest baristas and great coffee selections. Awesome atmosphere and the cutest little free stickers. Nice view at the windows and great location for work or informal meetings. Check it out!!

My favorite Compass. Such a great seating area w/ lots of natural light, plus an adorable community bookshelf and really kind baristas in my experience.

I ordered coffee and accessories from Compass as a Christmas gift for family. When my order arrived, some of the coffee was missing. I immediately took pictures and reached out to Compass. Zero reply. I sent over other emails in an attempt to make things right and heard only metaphorical crickets in response. Legitimately some of the worst customer service I have encountered in an established small business. Would never recommend Compass to anyone--am leaving a two star review because I read somewhere that they are worse that one star reviews and because the coffee wasn't poison.

The knowledge of the barista in charge was quite bad. Fact they do not serve pour-over coffee yet they charge close to 3 bucks for a drip version that is supposed to be lite roast but comes off as a Starbucks blonde roast profile. Add to this the coffee is piping hot. Shouldn’t be for a third wave coffee shop as such. Needless to say, may be good but personally wasn’t a fan.

I’ve been living in DC for 4 years— have tried multiple coffee spots, and can confirm as a huge espresso head this is the best you’ll find, their Emblem Espresso is just on another level!Staff is super friendly, and chill and enjoy to come here and knock some work done during the week. As you can tell my support animal Teddy loves their doggy treats/ and puppachinos too!

Outstanding place for anything coffee. It is nice to have alternatives to Starbucks once in a while..The service could not be better. The prices are reasonable.

Fantastic coffee and the staff were super sweet. My only complaint are the terrible straws - they literally break if you try to take them out of the wrapper. Maybe better straws in the future?
