I ordered a general tso with fried rice and a combination lomein. For the two meals provided they gave us 2 packs of soy sauce. The general tso was just ok and the fried rice was mushy with a bunch of scallions (craziest fried rice I've ever seen) BLAND BLAND BLAND. It seems like they're running out of food or trying to hold onto it. I don't see them being in business much longer. Never going back!!!
I was in a hurry to grab lunch before heading to a meeting. Usually go to the New Dynasty on P Street but not enough time. Ordered Kung Pao Tofu and an egg roll. As I waited I noticed that the place was doing a fantastic take-out business, as delivery driver after driver appeared to pick up orders. I thought to myself, this must be a terrific place. Nope, terrible! The tofu was a plate of fried tofu. So fried, in fact, that they were a plate full of small fried squares resembling small tater tots. These were literally french-fried tofu! On the side was a pint of white rice (standard) and a bowl of sauce. Never before have I had tofu cooked this hard and I've eaten this dish at restaurants from DC to Boston. It's usually fried soft in a wok, not in a fry-o-later. The "chicken" egg roll was a small thing that was more on the lines of a spring roll. The two items costs $20. Never again!
This used to be one of the BEST Chinese Restaurants in DC. The food was top notch delicious. I used to take any friend that loved Chinese food and was visiting DC to dinner here. It is a shell of what it used to be in its hey day. It is now an overpriced Chinese carry out. I was so disappointed when I got what used to be my favorite dish, garlic salt shrimp with the shell on. They no longer serve it with the shell on. I knew that, but I had to order it that way bcz one time they gave me garlic shrimp instead. I also ordered chicken fried rice and two spring rolls. Over $43 total! Nevertheless, we got home and I was expecting to see the food in the first picture. Instead, I got the food in the 2nd picture. I took one bite and it was what tasted like breaded shrimp pieces. I was like “where’s the shrimp?” I broke it open and said, “oh there it is …”. I was so disappointed!!! That dish is one of the most expensive ones on the menu. I know times are hard and everything has increased in price. But there is no way City Lights of China should cut corners on any dish let alone this one! A bag of hefty size shrimp is only $40 at Costco. That dish is like $25. I’m going to learn to make this dish myself. But I’m very disappointed that their business has come to this. It’s a shame that they are charging the same price for a dish that is of much lesser quality. It was a good ride with them. I must say farewell.
Don’t waste your money or your time. This place is just bad. My chicken was so dry it was difficult to chew. The fried rice was also dry and tasteless. This place is like panda express but way worse and way more expensive.
I ordered online and went to pick up at the time scheduled and they told me they were working on it. I waited in the store for an additional 30 minutes, they never called my name, I tried to go to the counter again to check on my order and the staff completely ignored me and refused to check and see if my order was ready. I left at that point without my food. I tried to call all evening for a refund since my online order was paid ahead of pickup and they aren’t answering their phones. More of a scam than a restaurant.
Literally the best Chinese I’ve had in forever. The service was amazing!
As a Chinese person, I advise you to go to Panda Express instead.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. The food was disgusting and the service was horrible. Does this look like orange chicken? Because I ordered orange chicken and this is what I got. I ordered white rice to go with it and we did not receive that. When I called them they told me to call Uber. When I explained that all Uber did was pick up and deliver the food they prepared and packaged they still told me to call Uber. That’s not all, I paid a lot of money for my order, the ribs and fried rice were stale. My 10 yrs old daughter spit out the fried rice. My husband said there was some random brown pieces of something in the orange chicken. The egg drop soup had no taste. My daughters also hated the chicken lomein. The only thing that tastes good was the fortune cookie and the coke. Please, do not order from here. You will be disappointed and disgusted.
