Very bad experience. In menu, it said Rib, but it is definitely not Rib.In menu, it said hand-made noodle, but it is definitely not, and someone's hair in fhe soup!!There is no *soup* in souo dumpling, it is just freezed and heated with microwave oven. No taste..Ethical problem!!Please cook the right food!
We ate here recently since my partner loves Chinese food. The service was OK. We tried to order half a salt chicken but they were out. The Szechuan beans were decent. The pork dish we ordered lacked pork and had a slight bitter taste to it. Our dumpling appetizer was a marvel. The steamed dough bun was soggy and sitting in water when served, yet the filling was remarkably dry. All of it was super salty. A guy at a nearby table ordered pork Lo Mein and it appeared to be a plate of noodles with a few pieces of onion. However, reasonable prices. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing. It was very much not to my liking.
It was ok, I think of all we ordered the Singapore noodles were the best. Definitely wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again.
Fresh noodles are good. Try to visit every time I am in town.
I have been coming to Chinatown Express for many years when I have been coming to DC. It is one of the few restaurants left in the ever-shrinking DC Chinatown. The food was always really good and was known for its dumplings and noodles that were made by their main chef in the window of the restaurant. The last time I had eaten there two years ago, and the food was mediocre at best. So, I was hesitant of going again but the owners were making dumplings in the window, and I wanted to try it again. The food was really good, and the service was more attentive. I had the freshly made pork and chive dumplings pan fried and they were really good. They had a nice flavor and were well spiced. I then had the freshly made noodles in a Roast Pork Noodle Soup with Bok Choy and it was one of the best I have had in a long time. The noodles were firm in the soup and had a nice taste to them. The soup was loaded with fresh ingredients and was a meal into itself. The waitress was very nice, and the food came out in a timely fashion. It was an improvement from the last trip and I will be back on my next trip to DC in the future.
This place have the best duck ever, very tender and delicious. The home made noodles is a must try. Yes, it is small and can get crowded but food is great.
$8.95 lunch specials. Friendly staff. Decent food. There are not many Chinese restaurants left in DC’s Chinatown. Chinatown Express is one of the long lasting ones. No fancy exterior or interior, but they provide friendly service, affordable and decent food, and accept all major credit cards. All the lunch entree specials are $8.95 (Mon-Fri 10am-2:30pm). Food portion was reasonable, not as many meat/toppings as I was hoping for, but considering all the crazy inflation and supply shortages, it was still a generous amount. For the plates that come with white rice, they did give plenty of rice. One of the plates I ordered was the Fried Pork Chop. The staff informed me right away that the dish would take some time (~15 minutes) to make. I appreciate this kind of information when ordering to keep customers aware of the longer food prep time. And the estimate given was pretty accurate; my Fried Pork Chop dish came out right around 15 minutes after my order was placed.Overall, I would recommend this place.
Roast duck noodle soup was slamming, wish there would Have been more breast meat but the broth was dee-lish... They have a good variety of authentic and american style Chinese food. The soup dumpling are fresh handmade And weren't bad... good place if you're on the go!
I tried the chicken egg foo young and enjoyed it! I got extra rice and that was a good choice! The would not get the steamed dumplings again.
Service is bad, food is not great. Pictures and what the food comes out to be is different. The place is very dirty. Had a bad feeling when first coming in but gave the benefit of doubt due to how authentic it looks. Very disappointing. Price is standard.
