Loved my experience at busboys and poets. I got the vegan chicken sandwich with a side of asparagus. The asparagus was cooked just right. The chicken sandwich was decently sized but held well together. I love the taste of the vegan chicken sandwich, it had a spicy kick to it. The vibes of the restaurant is also very homey. The bookstore inside the restaurant also had a selection of books I don't typically see in regular bookstores.
Loved this place! 1st time in DC and heard this was a great place to eat and shop for books. They were right! Staff was friendly and the energy was Perfect. I had the cheeseburger and some nachos- both were delicious. I tried the cauliflower bites and was pleasantly surprised! I asked our waitress what drink she recommended since I liked sweet drinks. She brought over a DC water and I ended up having 3. Bought some postcards, stickers, a jigsaw puzzle and a book. Would definitely visit again!
Boyfriend and I were looking for breakfast to eat and we choose to go here. Very unique atmosphere. Love how they incorporated the bookstore & dinning together. Although the service we got was not what we expected. We order our drinks then later ordered our entrées. We get our food and both of our food was lukewarm and my fries was COLD (didn’t eat it). In addition, our server never checked on how we are doing and gave us what we requested which was just sugar for our coffee. Manager was walking around doing table touches and we never got touched. Our server then asked “how was everything” after we put our plate aside and decided enough is enough. Maybe if we come back it’ll be different but being our FIRST time eating there, we won’t come back. So if you’re looking for good food with good service this won’t be it or maybe it’ll be different. Who knows.
The ambience is what you'll visit this location for. An unassuming book store with inspiring quotes and art of historic figures. The food is okay for what I felt was overpriced breakfast/lunch. We asked for a fried chicken sandwich the online menu didn't mention it being spicy but it was. The Cobb salad chicken tasted and looked like chicken that is pre-prepared and just waiting to be thrown on the salad. I had the wild rice soup and it came out room temperature and was a little salty. The kids grilled cheese was great according to my daughter. Our server Eunice only stopped by to refill water and drop the check. I would've expected something a little friendlier from a place giving such warm bookstore cafe vibes.
We got the Smoked Dalmon Benedict and Sweet Potato Pancakes. Overall this was a great breakfast and was memorable. I wish I could do it slightly differently. I'd like to add a little bit of red onion and sea salt or everything bagel seasonings to the Benedict. Other than that, very nice.
Perfect brunch spot! Our server, Donna, was outstanding and so nice. The food runner asked if we needed anything else, which sometimes they will (justifiably) leave for the server to do. He brought me hot sauce packets on a little plate, which I thought was nice. A busboy chatting with my friend about his cool mask. The music was kind of eclectic and cool. Just everything was great. 12/10 would brunch again.
Loved this place! Amazing service, and great food. For my first visit, I tried the chicken omelette and it tasted so good. I definitely recommend it to everyone.
This was a really nice place ! As you wait too can check out their book store . Had so many different wonderful and colorful books. We sat at the bar so we wouldn’t have to wait . We had ebony as our waitress. She was very sweet . As you can see in the photos there are two pics of soup. Norge the same ( wild rice vegetable soup) but one is a cup and one is a bowl! If you get the bowl you’ll likely be full before you even get your entree. But the soup was delicious and flavorful ! I definitely recommend that. Then I ordered the shrimp and grits ! Absolutely delicious. & I love how they has asparagus in it . Never had shrimp and grits with that in it. The shrimp were big & it was a nice portion . My friend got the chicken and shrimp pasta . It was kind of spicy but good as well! We both ordered their orange Juice too and you definitely want to because it’s really fresh. It gets made right in front of your eyes with a machine they have at the bar . Literally squeezes the oranges ?My cousin ordered a burger . Didn’t get a chance to take a pic but it was good .Last but not least we topped it off with their desert . A banana pudding I think with ice cream. It was good ? we were stuffed ! Lol
Good spot for a cozy breakfast. Prices are a bit steeper than expected but friendly wait staff and prompt courteous attention was always offered. My eggs where a tad overcooked but by no means bad. Would recommend for a unique and tasty experience
Great food and wonderful atmosphere. We had fried catfish and mushroom red curry risotto. They were amazing. Highly recommended.
