Busy but service was good and they worked hard to accommodate our group that kept growing
Too many other options in DC to tolerate the poor service Having enjoyed restaurants in Sitges, Barcelona and Figueres, I was anticipatory when my friend suggested La Boqueria in Dupont. We met for Sunday brunch yet despite numerous open tables were seated immediately next to other guests. The tables are small and tightly packed so once water, beverage, plates, entrees etc. arrive your taxed for space and it feels like a game of tabletop Jenga See the attached photo our initial table was directly next to the guest with the ponytail. As the sun moved the guest shifted her position. The back of her chair rests on the edge of our table. We tried to locate our waiter, Martin, to no avail. It was a warm day and prospect of eating our main meal with another guest’s perspiring back and hair was unsettling, so we moved to a nearby empty table. Understandably this is not optimal, but Martin was MIA and this was an untenable situation. Upon Martin’s eventual return, he was not curious as to why we moved; he was aggressive and rude – promptly moved us to a third table directly in the sun. Additional punishment included allowing condensation from the refill water pitcher to drip directly into my handbag. When we noted the direct sun was ruining our food Martin was dismissive and stated it was weather. Food wise we never made it to the main course. The croquetas cremosas were tasty enough but we watched the Catalan Farmers breakfast melt in front of us and only tasted the chorizo. The food was OK but not up to par. Overall ambiance and service did not match the price point. Our waiter Martin and his ego insured the absolute worse dining experience possible. Thinking this was possibly a one off, I decided to read other reviews and noticed a thread of questionable service and seating. Pay attention to these reviews this location has a problem. In contrast, the next day ate at Le Diplomate – received excellent professional service and high-quality food.
Great tapas! We went al la carte on our choices and shared (two items per person). It was more than enough food and delicious. Staff was very gracious, and outdoor seating was perfect.
Server was friendly and helpful. Food was ok . I would not recommend the red sangria was watered down .
Came here for the brunch experience and was overall satisfied. The portions for brunch were rather small. The lamb dish that I got was on a small plate as shown in the photo so I had to order another dish because that was not enough. The lamb dish though was delicious as well as my second order of the French toast. The mimosas and sangria as part of the brunch experience were delightful.
Food was good. Safe bet to take people who are visiting. Not sure if I would go back again soon. Service was good.
Unfortunately, a very large and extremely loud alcohol fueled birthday party group made it nearly impossible to hear even a shouted conversation with the person I was sitting next to let alone with the server. She did her best under the circumstances. We received our food as ordered which we did in Spanish in order to communicate effectively. The food was as expected but limited and expensive. Frankly, for the money, we could have had a better meal elsewhere. When our original very competent server went off duty, the replacement basically ignored us unless we seriously flagged her down. In hindsight, we should have sat outdoors, but the day was quite hot and vehicle traffic was lively and close to those tables.
This was my first visit to boqueria and i had the broccoli tapas dish and the asparagus tapas dish along with the shishito pepper marg. All were delicious. The marg is only improved by swapping out the ice âpebblesâ for one cube or sphere (the ice melted relatively quickly), otherwise, wonderful experience.
Good choice if you are looking for Spanish tapas. The waiter was especially helpful when making the best choices on the menu. The outdoor seating was pleasant, although there was no need for the loud music.
