They should really do something to address or control the mosquito situation for the outdoor dining. Other restaurants in the area at least have citronella candles or spray at the tables. We got absolutely chowed by the mosquitoes at dinner
Great find. Affordable and yummy.Ordered one app, two entrees, two drinks, and a dessert. Out the door in $100Drinks were ok. Not strong, could’ve been tastier.Beef dumpling appetizer was excellent.Orange chicken was good, just a little over cooked and too much orange peel.BBQ chicken rice dish was excellent. Perfectly cooked soft boiled egg.Lemon mascarpone cake was delicious.Too loud, but there is available outside seating that would have been perfect.Overall very happy! Will def come back.
Chose the place because of its great reviews on the dim sum and cool vibes.Props on making a really good Negroni and French 75The food was okay I would say come only for happy hour. The Garlic Noodles were oily and dry, the Pork Belly Bao missed something special like a good dipping sauce. Found the food overpriced for the amount and taste. Service was very nice though.
Food was gross and overpriced. Won't be going back
The happy hour prices are great, though unfortunately there was a beetle inside one of my chive dumplings (the server brought out a new order and said they arenât made in house). Additionally, another member of our party has a food intolerance (made known to server) and mistakenly order a drink containing this ingredient (no comment from server). We had to request that these items be comped on our bill after receiving the bill including both issues lol
Great time with friends
Great food and even better customer service !
Immediately upon arrival the hostess said to us âyou have an hour and 15 minutesâ, which was extremely unwelcoming. There is no ambiance to speak of - the room is basically just a concrete floor with chairs and tables - and with nothing to dampen noise, it is deafening inside. The food was good, but not transcendent. Since the concept is a series of small plates to share, it would be nice if you were periodically provided a fresh plate so you arenât forced to eat a course in the sauces and remnants of previous courses. It would also be nice if the restaurant did not assume everyone is proficient with chopsticks.
The service was excellent and very personal. My initial cocktail was not flavorful and it was replaced without any challenge. The dumplings were substantial in size and quantity as well as tasty but somewhat dough-y. The salt/pepper shrimp were al punto and the fried fish light and non-greasy, and the sauce a perfect match. At the end of the meal, the manager served us a unexpected after-dinner sized portion of our favority cocktail... a lovely touch. I will definitely return and recommend Bar Chinois to friends. The only downside is the extreme noise inside, requiring people sitting across from in each other in small tables to literally yell, at times, to be heard. I'll wait for cooler weather to enjoy a peaceful, outside table.
I come far too much not to write a review.Whether you’re a DC local who needs a good spot to brunch, or just got off work with colleagues ready to Marry The Night; Bar Chinois is the place to be. ?????
