Anju introduces unique flavor combos while still remaining familiar to Korean palates. Portions are generous and easy to share. The mixed cold noodles with crab, tomato and avocado was refreshing and perfect for summer. The black bean noodles with lamb was super rich and flavorful, but needed more noodles to balance out the heavy sauce. This is solely my opinion, but I think it's a shame that the banchan isn't gratis with the meal. Paying for banchan goes against everything I know about Korean restaurant hospitality.
I did not like the kimchi here at all, but the soy-brined chayote was a creative panchan that I loved and had never had anything like before. The mandu was perfectly meaty and stuffed, and the kimchi jigae was nicely flavoured with tender chunks of pork — this was my favourite dish. Even the house infused soju was delicious. I can’t wait to come back!
Every dish had its character and managed to keep their authenticity, I recommend their mandu, almost all tables ordered that during our visit. Their spicy seafood noodle was really really hot -- if you are not confident with spicy foods then don't try it, otherwise you will love it.Due to covid restrictions they only opened their bar seating area, not so comfy but I believe the food was worth sacrificing a bit of ur butt comfort.
I love this restaurant. One of my favorite Korean restaurants and my favorite dumplings. The diner is really good and the price affordable. My little baby did no like much the food so I ate her dinner too hahaha. I gave it 4 stars because the service is ok+. It is really busy as well so you better do your reservation before you go.
This fried chicken sandwich is epic, amazing and wonderfully spicy. The pickles and kimchi are to die for. The pork belly is also superb. Hands down my New favorite place in D.C.
Spending a Sunday brunch at Anju was one for the books, the food and service were superb. We enjoyed the dumplings and juk as a start, then ventured into the infamous chicken sandwich and the special French toast at that time (I heard it rotates) which was chocolate moon pie, which was pretty amazing.Overall for the price, service, and experience I would rate a 4 of 5. The only ding I give to this place was that I kept seeing dust on a lot of the unused surfaces like the thermostat and some objects, so it is time for a deep clean :-)!
So I’ll qualify this review by saying it’s not Anju’s fault Washingtonian made them #1 on their very best restaurants list. In my mind, that slot should be reserved for truly special experiences like Komi, Minibar, etc. This is not that. Having said that, this is the kind of place I would like to come all the time if I lived in the neighborhood. The staff is super friendly, the decor is nice, and the menu has several standouts. Based on the reviews, we had to try the dumplings and fried chicken. Both were top notch and we really enjoyed them. I could eat the dumplings all day every day. We tried the duck/noodles to try to get something a little more adventurous and it wasn’t our cup of tea. Way too rich (and I don’t say that often!). The waffle dessert was really different and might have been the best thing here. So cocktails were fresh, food was really good, price was reasonable. I would have been really fired up about this place if I randomly stopped in after a Saturday walking around. My advice would be ignore the hype and set expectations and enjoy this place for what it is… a little neighborhood gem.
Absolutely loved the vibe and service! The food was also very flavorful and great. We got the loaded hashbrown (large), spicy chicken sandwich, and kimchi burger with a couple of drinks. All of them were great- have to come back for more!
The food was amazing. Everything was immensely flavorful. Meat was tender. Portions are big, great for sharing. Service is fabulous. Came here on a snowy night and was delighted by the cozy ambiance
I highly recommend eating here! All the food was very tasty and delicious. We went there for a late brunch on a Sunday. The service was great. We had their house infused jujube, ginger and honey soju and that was also very good. We’ll definitely come again and try their dinner!
