The new location is nicely redone. The food is pretty good, although I found the rice in both dishes to be a little dry and flavorless. The meat patties served as an appetizer were definitely worth it! I wish there had been a little more variety to the music than Bob Marley on repeat. We heard the same song more than once while we were there.

Drinks excellent. My food was ok , less meat on bones of chicken.

Perfect for date nights. My boyfriend and i absolutely love this place.

I ordered the bbq salmon and had a Irish whiskey mix. The service was amazing. Food came out in time and was well seasoned. The salmon was not dry which I like. I would go back there again.

The food and drinks were good, no complaints on that end. Going out to eat is meant to be an experience, we can always eat elsewhere, but you deliberately choose, PAY, gather at a restaurant for an experience. Our experience at The Russel was VERY poor. Our waitress, Kayla, was dismissive, nonchalant, and most importantly - unapologetic. She never wrote down our orders, which was our first sign of a bad experience. 25 minutes in, I hadto go to the bar to order and bus our own drinks because I waitress didn't submit the order. When we informed her, rather than simply a -'sorry about that', she proceeded to argue with me and claim the bartender "doesn't know what she's doing" Iwas shoooooook lol at dinner? That I'm paying for? The waitress raising her voice at a customer? Please. The list of poor service goes on. She never checked on us once the food was brought out, we actually had to ask the hostess several times to find/Inform our waitress that we needed something. She forgot our order again, and it was very clear when she sent a random associate to come out and ask us for our order AGAIN claiming it was a system issue- which doesn’t add up considering the waitress never wrote the order down and somehow the associate knew one part of the order and not the other. It’s giving human error NOT system error. We will not be returning, nor recommending. We’re cool off disrespectful staff alongside our oxtail and fried plantain. Customer service is everything & The Russell failed here.

Listen, this is one black business that makes it harder to support because there’s always something. I visited the west Hartford location with a friend of mine, and we were seated immediately but waited atleast 15 min for our waitress, Kayla. She finally comes and apologizes for the wait and takes our drink orders. Then we wait another 15 min and begin to wonder when we will receive our drinks, as we can see the bartender right behind us. Finally my friend walks over and asks about our drinks, and is told by the bartender that she didn’t have any drinks waiting in her queue and would begin making our drinks at that moment. Which means, our waitress NEVER put in the drinks, or even came back to check on us after almost 20 min. Then the bartender was nice enough to bring over our drinks and they were great. By the time our waitress comes back, we’re half way through our drinks!! At this point we still haven’t seen our waitress since she introduced herself to us. She finally decides to grace us with her presence after almost 40min, to take our entrees. We address the fact that she never put in our drink orders, and she blames it on the bartender not paying attention and being distracted and even starts rolling her neck and cutting off my friend as she is telling her that we literally had to order our drinks because she never put the order in. Then when our plates were brought out, we had no silverware and asked the woman who brought our plates if she could grab some for us. She said of course, but like typical fashion of this establishment she never came back, or even addressed us again. So then we had to ask another waitress for silverware, so that we could stop staring at our food, and actually eat it. Even the table that was beside us was upset with Kaylas service because she would just disappear and never come back, until she felt like it. With service this bad, they should be take out. Truly disappointing experience.

I’ve tried too of The Russells locations so far. I am alway impressed by the cozily decorated interior, thoughtful and thorough service, beaten only by the excellent food. Wait time was a bit long. But that’s to be expected when at a sit down Jamaican restaurant serving authentic cuisine. 10/10 recommend, will be back.

Food is really good. Place is just too short staffed and not organized

The Russell never disappoints. If you are looking for West Indian restaurant with a grown and sexy vibe, this is your place. I went there to celebrate Mother's day with a couple of family members who have never been. It was during brunch time and we all enjoyed our appetizers, food, and drinks. The ambience is nice. Definitely recommend going here anytime. Again I say I have never been disappointed with the food or atmosphere. The owner makes sure customer service and quality are priorities.

Chicken was well seasoned! The drinks were amazing
