Reviewing from the second floor! The vibe is really nice here. The music on the second floor (and maybe first although didn't notice) is very loud so don't expect to take any video calls if you plan to work from here. There is bar/window seating on the second floor that overlooks Farmington Ave. so great for people watching if you like to do that while you eat/drink.I got the golden milk latte with oat milk and it was tasty. Granted this isn't legit coffee so can't speak to that specifically. I also got the chicken Caesar wrap which was tasty but the chicken did start to taste more strongly "chicken-y" the more I ate and it turned me off from finishing it. (if you know what I mean, you get it. Almost gamey in flavor or something). Plenty of dressing on the wrap-- I didn't need to order extra on the side. I'd definitely be back and maybe try a baked good next time or some of the bread.
I have lost any and all hope in having a good experience at HBC. I continue to return thinking next time will be better and I’m always disappointed by how poorly it is run. Between the chaotic way of ordering half my items with someone above pastries and the other half at the register and waiting an unnecessary amount of time for my food/drinks to come out while employees talk and text behind the counters, to receive food that isn’t even warm. Not what I’m interested in spending my money or time on again.Additionally- as I sit here, there is a staff member helping customers (clearly new) and I am watching the cashier and another woman, who seems to be the manager, based upon her dress code, actively making fun of the new employee instead of helping him. Truly the cherry on top ensuring I won’t return.
Just terrible….Just awful, absolutely terrible treatment of customers and disabled with what seems to be a relatively recent change in management at WH location. HBC used to be a really good neighborhood place for excellent coffee and bakery items. Over the years they have changed drastically and can't seem to keep any staff, the staff turnover is obvious almost every time I would go in. But today's experience with the intrusive, obnoxious and out of line manager was the last straw. It is the 2nd time she has blatantly mistreated handicapped customers and I witnessed the HBC actually called the cops on a customer today because she didn't like where they had their car (it was not blocking any driveways or parking spaces or the public road and yet she seems to think she should dictate where legally handicapped permit holders temporarily idle their car to do business at her shop). She doesn’t own the road so it is very odd to have a manager of the business spend her time outside seemingly to interfere with customers instead of helping her employees with customer orders. And the false advertising about "curbside pickup" which forces you to pay in advance for curbside pickup which is actually NOT in place is outrageous. How do you do that to disabled customers who paid for curbside pickup online and then arrive only to be told curbside is not an option and you have to come inside, whether you have the wheelchair or walker available or not?Food and coffee was terrible. Cappucinos are only available in one size - a very small 8 ounce cup. Prices are through the roof. They need to wake up And stop taking such gross advantage of their customers. And this is coming from a frequent regular customer (Never will do business there again though) of both the West Hartford and Glastonbury locations and previously for many years of the New Park Rd location. I have likely spent well over several thousand dollars at HBC over the years when it seemed employees and customers were treated well which made their way over priced items worth spending on to support a locally owned business. No more, in my opinion they are overpriced for poor service and food and coffee items that aren't worth all that. Not cool to treat disabled And handicapped customers, or any customers, so badly. And I think they got state assistance which would mean, if so, that taxpayers help this business be so rude.
It was my first time coming here and I was pretty hopeful. Unfortunately, the barista was incredibly rude. I tried to order an iced macchiato which the cashier said was fine. The the barista said, ”how would ice fit in a 4oz cup?” He continued to tell me that this isn’t Starbucks. So he said he couldn’t make it even after the cashier told him they were told they can make everything iced. Instead, I ordered a latte. He made it iced but I ordered it hot. When I let him know, he was visibly upset. Maybe I’ll try another location or not come on Sunday mornings.
I found this little gem on google on a whim! This place was fabulous. Great service, wide selection of fresh foods and a homey feel. Everything was tasty! I will definitely go back.
Looks like a great place but the lattes are a disappointment. My friend and I each just got essentially a cup of steamed milk with almost no coffee flavor. I realize a latte has a lot of milk, but their ratio is off or there is a problem with the coffee.
Regular coffee is okay. It is DD-like coffee. Even with COVID and all, they have jugs of milk/cream and stirrers that everyone touches. Place looks good but I'm probably not coming again.
Went to this place because I wanted to see what they offer for breakfast. But I WILL NEVER step foot inside here again. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. Asked for a muffin to be warmed up. Lady took it and gave it to the person who was suppose to warm it up for me. And he grabbed it with his bare hands. No gloves or anything at all. Then the lady said “He’s in the kitchen he’s not supposed to wear gloves.” Are you serious? That is so disgusting. No where have I ever seen such rude employees and her condescending attitude when it comes to not wearing gloves when touching my food. Absolutely the worst! Please don’t come here.
Great customer service! In and out with our order. Also love the online ordering. Makes it nice to run in and out if I have to be somewhere and cant sit in their dining area.
Love it! Great customer service. So many great options to choose from. And they offer breakfast and lunch ALL DAY LONG!
