crab rangoon hard as a rock , lomein no flavor , sweet n sour chicken all oil and breading chicken wings good but smallest i’ve had anywhere

Highland Gardens is the only Chinese restaurant that I order takeout from. Everything I have ordered has been fresh and perfectly prepared. The hot and sour soup has no equal in the area. It is loaded with mushrooms, tofu, and pork it is a well flavored and hearty soup unlike the bland, watery, and tasteless hot and sour soup served in most Chinese restaurants. The steamed shrimp or steamed chicken with Chinese vegetables is also outstanding as is the broccoli with garlic sauce to mention just a few items on the menu. The staff is very competent and cordial. The owner’s teen-age son also works there when not in school and is a great addition to the staff. Service is prompt and food is moderately price. Highland Gardens is by far the best Chinese takeout in Waterbury!
Ordered the sweet and sour chicken and the broccoli beef, which came with pork fried rice. The rice was decent, but the chicken and beef were great - good mix of meat and veggies, and they got our order correct. Also got egg roll which was amazing, should've gotten 3! And a steal at $1.50 - all the dishes were, coming in under $10 for quality food and HUGE portions! I'm 6'4" with a huge appetite, it's 2 meals. Topped it off with the crab rangoon, which didn't disappoint. If you want authentic Chinese takeout in Central CT, can't beat this place - you can hear the Mandarin in the kitchen! Wish they had a dine-in option, maybe as they grow it could be an addition, someday! Friendly, helpful staff, too.
Food was excellent. Prices are great. Place is SO DIRTY.Please, clean the bugs from everywhere.Never again.

Seems like they don't answer phone for half hour increments. Needs more staff.
