friendly staff..great service...burgers are juicy
Trust the hype! Just recognize you're going to get a well prepared simple burger from a historic location with antique ovens. As long as your expectations are set properly, I think you'll enjoy. Don't come expecting a ridiculous burger with a bunch of extravagant stuff.
A good hamburger is basically a gift from Heaven in my mind. These however rank as some of the worst I’ve come across. Basically you get a piece of raw meat, and I mean raw, slapped between two thin slices of Wonderbread. To add further insult they don’t have Ketchup. That’s right no ketchup. I cannot understand the draw. Maybe someone who has never tasted ground beef in any capacity will think this is OK, but if you have ever eaten an actual hamburger, you will be disappointed. Don’t get your hopes up on any of the sides either.
Do not debate... This is the original burger place! If you are a burger lover, this is a must have on your bucket list!Small place, but it has been around since 1900 with a small move down the street in the 70s.The burgers were fantastic! They come medium rare, but we ordered them medium well and they were delicious and very flavorful! They come on sandwich bread just like the originals.I'm not a big potato salad guy, but my wife said that it was really really good!It is very interesting to watch them cook in the cast iron gas stoves!Small place, small menu, but big place in American food history!Definitely worth the visit!
Just awesome! Great burgers, straight to the point tomato and/or onions are the only toppings. The people are great too! It's a family owned and run place since 1895 and the birthplace of the burger sandwich ?.
Original, YES! Very good, tasty burger, plain with no hoopla! I had a cheese burger with onion and tomato. That is all that is offer as condiments and believe me you don't need nothing else on it. Plain and simple. The lady behind the register is an absolute delight. She had a great personality and sense of humor! I would go back for another in a heartbeat.
everything was delicious Got tee shirts Everyone was so friendly Was there before and enjoyed it then also .
If googled this place should come up as the first place in the United States that made a hamburger.I liked the gentleman who took our order, for his sassiness ?I really liked the potato salad, It is truly a must try. It does have egg in it for those who like potato salad. The burger was okay. I wanted to give it a try because I've never been there and my friend has always wanted to try it.The burgers are on toasted white bread with cheese and you can have tomato and onion added. There is no sauce of any kind.I did like that I was able to ask for the burger to be well versus the medium rare which is how they advertise it.My personal review would be 3/5 stars, I gave it 4/5 stars because it wasn't a bad burger it just wasn't my taste.
I honestly thought this place would be a gimmick, tourist trap, or at best, a shadow of its former self, or a relic of some bygone era. But I was pleasantly surprised. The interior is charming, dated (in a good way), and the seating is some the most unique I've ever seen complete with etchings and personal graffiti. As for the burgers? You get tomato, you get onion, and you get two pieces of bread. Don't ask for ketchup. The taste? Solid! Always prepared medium rare, though it looked a bit on the rarer side. I could see myself eating a handful of these, but settled for one at that time.
The history of it being 100+ years old. And how they didn't change a thing. Special made burgers with no ketchup. Potatoe salad. Foxen park soda: root beer, creme, birch beer soda. Takes me back to my youth. Nice to visit New Haven again.
