Decided to try Abate Restaurant after trying the other 'must have New Haven pizza joints'. Pizza was good, however it is a thicker crust than the others (Sally's, Frank Pepe's, Modern) and honestly was more of a regular pizza joint (if you can call it that). Staff very friendly, would I return, maybe.However I do prefer Modern and Franks pizza more personally..
I really hate leaving bad reviews especially when it’s for a place that I’ve ate from a few times before with no real big issues. I decided to place an order through the DoorDash app for an order of Zuppa di pesce from abates. I specifically requested the pasta be made with white sauce because red sauce does not always agree with my body. My order arrived (after being delayed) and the pasta was in red sauce. I immediately contacted DoorDash who only offered me a $9 refund (order was $39). I then chose to contact the restaurant directly who reassured me they would fix it and have their delivery driver bring the correct order. The driver arrives and they want the old order back(?) ehh ok as long as I get my food that’s fine. They literally sent me less than half of the first portion I received in the wrong order. 1 shrimp really?? Sauce was watery and flavorless. I’m so disappointed!!!
Went to Abate pizza today with my one year old twins after a stroll in the park, the girl working the Togo window was very nice, she made me feel welcome and went above and beyond for my girls and I, she even gave me reusable plates to bring home for my three children which s was very kind. The pizza was great too, my one year olds first time trying pizza!
Absolutely delicious pizza! When I’m in New Haven, always grab one to take back home to Mystic- so good! Nice staff - great place !

Abate has been one of the best Italian Restaurants on Wooster Street for many years. Their Italian and seafood dishes are always excellent. Try the Salmon, it is well worth a visit.

Ordered take out, and despite eating the pizza roughly 25 minutes later, it tasted great. The spinach pizza was jam packed, and the cheese pizza was flavorful. I appreciated that the pizza was not oily.
I’m slowly learning that you can’t order everything from this restaurant. Few days ago I ordered the mashed potato pizza, I only had one slice out of the medium and the whole pie I threw it out, it was awfully salty. I also ordered the coconut shrimp dinner… What coconut shrimp?? The coconut flakes were all over the fries, the shrimp was salty, and the dipping sauce was like a duck sauce. Horrible. The coconut shrimp wasn’t dipped in a nice batter. Waste of money in a matter of days. The best thing so far in my experience in their pepperoni pizza. I think I’m done experimenting with their menu.
Placed order at 11am. Waited hour and half, called and was told a big order was place and would be 20mins for delivery and would get a free soda. Two hours and 15 mins driver arrived with cold pizza and no free drink. Driver also stated no big order was placed prior and looked at ticket and said wow!! Very unprofessional!!!!
