It truly upsets me that I had such high hopes for this establishment. (I don’t leave negative reviews like ever!)I placed 2 chicken dinners at 6:13 pm I was told it would be ready in 25 mins. Which is fine. (I live out of town anyway) I get there and I waited until our food was finally done at 7:07 pm . Food smelt phenomenal on the way home. Now that my husband and I sit and start our dinner, We take the trays out and the foam is burnt into the chicken. We try and bypass it we both try the chicken immediately placed it back in the tray. It was so oily and salty. (Im well aware of seasonings) but no this was pure salt and grease! I ordered Mac n cheese/Greens for my side. Mac n cheese was definitely over boiled and just soggy. Collard Greens were deff from the can. The cornbread was straight jiffy. So I go to the dessert that I split with my husband I wanted to cry at this point like nothing was saving the day here. Not even the banana pudding ? it was like soupy bananas were black! It should be made fresh daily and there’s no way it was. please take this review for constructive criticism. I wanted soul food I was excited to try, yet let down. This place definitely has potential. It’s cute inside. Staff was friendly. Vibes were good. Sending blessings and hoping in the near future to try again as long as they make some adjustments.
I’m live in Virginia & was in Hartford for a marathon. I Googled places to eat and came across this place. Read a few reviews & decided it try it. When we got there, it was empty except for two customers. Great! Place our orders and sat down. I had the chicken dinner with mac & cheese and greens. My friend had the fried fish with the same sides. Our food was good, fresh, and hot. Spoke briefly with the owner about the name of the restaurant & how long he’s been in business. Glad we made the choice to try out this establishment.
Absolutely the best soul food I've ever had!!!!! The waffles were more like fluffy fried pillows that a waffle, Absolutely the most crisp while also sweet and fluffy waffles I've ever had. The spice from the Hot Honey chicken tenders on top complimented the honey so well; a kick of heat with a hit of sweet! :)Cornbread was just how I like it; thick, buttery and smooth. And the Mac and Cheese? AMAZING! A beautiful balance of cheese and noodles, not too soggy like many I've had before. WILL ALWAYS RECOMMEND!!!
It’s my first time go in there because I though it s funny. So I did, I ate the shrimp jumbo with Mac cheese and yellow rice. And also that man who give us free water. Very nice.The shrimp is too salty but it s ok. I eat the yellow rice it s very championships even so far I m Spanish and Portugal. But Seriously very delicious! And vibe is very quiet and nice.
I ordered shrimp with two sides, yellow rice and Mac/cheese.Shrimp and yellow rice is incredibly delicious!!! My sister even agreed with me. Mac taste ok and dry. There's not enough cheese. The owner is pleasantly friendly and gives us free banana pudding. Banana pudding taste so good!!
Came here today & I have to say I was definitely happy with my meal. I had a party of 3 we all had the whiting fish dinner with the side of yams & I had collard greens. Only this we stood there waiting to be helped for longer than I would have expected but it's cool.See you guys sooner than later!!?
Heard great things and was unfortunately disappointed. delivery order was wrong I ordered catfish with sauce and I was send whiting. The whiting fish was undercooked and soft. Mac and cheese, collard greens, and whiting was flavorless, unseasoned. Cornbread was as dry as it looks and had no flavor.
I’m definitely glad I ignored what I heard. The wife and I stopped by. What we needed was not on the menu, but the owner said to let him see what he could do. To our surprise he came through! The customer service and food was great. We’ll definitely be back. Thank Y’all!
Thank god I ignored the negative reviews. If you're reading this do yourself a favor and at least give this place a chance like I finally did.Girlfriend is a vegetarian (and so was the one before her) so I haven't been able to try this place since it opened but she's out today so "my wife didn't cook" lmao. I went into this expecting the food to be just "okay" after all the dramatic negative reviews and boy was I wrong. I only had the fried chicken (no sauce) and two sides of mac & cheese. Also came with a small corn bread I wasn't expecting since it wasn't listed as coming with the boneless wings on DoorDash, so that was really nice. The fried chicken was some of the best I've ever had. Crispy but juicy and again that's WITHOUT any sauce (they have good options tho). Mac & Cheese again also one of the best I ever had at a restaurant. Can tell it's actually made and not just random premade frozen mac and cheese a lot of restaurants serve (that or you have a really good frozen mac connect lol).I literally didn't even finish eating before starting this review. It was so good and you deserve the 5 stars because 3.9 does not do this place justice. Also it's thoughtful of you guys to put a little wrapper under the chicken. I was eating it and thought "it doesn't seem that greasy" and then grabbed the corn mufffin wrapper and it was DRENCHED in grease lol. None of the food tasted greasy though and because of the wrapper there wasn't any leaking out of the container. Plus was wondering why the corn bread came in a muffin wrapper and thankfully thanks to that, it didn't get soggy.Def. will recommend to friends and have this again sometime. Only wish you had more vegetarian options for my girl!
I got the shrimp plate with collard greens and yams! Omg!!! So delicious!! I was visiting the area and wanted to go back the next day to try something else, but found they aren't open on Mondays! Definitely give them a try!!
